LaLiga 2023-24: Team of the Season
Los Blancos lifted the Spanish first-tier football league title
With the LaLiga 2023-24 season now all but wrapped up, it has been both an interesting and a predictable season in some ways. While there was no competition for the title and the UEFA Champions League spots and relegation, it has also produced excellent storylines such as Girona’s incredible season, Jude Bellingham’s iconic debut campaign in Real Madrid and relegated Almeria almost stunning champions Real Madrid at their home.
The season has also seen some brilliant individual performances. Thus, here is our LaLiga 2023-24 team of the season:
LaLiga 2023-24 TOTS (Formation: 4-3-3)
GK: Unai Simon (Athletic Club)
While Unai Simon has always been solid for Athletic Club, this season the Spaniard has looked unbeatable at times. The Spanish No.1 is leading the clean sheets leaderboard with 17 this season, conceding only 36 goals in as many league matches.
This season has been his best in terms of clean sheets, and the 26-year-old has also won the Copa del Rey in a penalty shootout this season.
RB: Miguel Guttierez (Girona)
This was the first time where Miguel Guttierez was an integral part of a squad in senior football, and he impressed many Spanish fans with his game this season.
The 22-year-old, on loan from Real Madrid, was an ever stay in Girona’s defence in their fairytale season while chipping in with two goals and six assists to make it a successful breakthrough campaign for him.
CB: Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid)
Antonio Rudiger has become a fan favourite at the Bernabeu since his move from Chelsea two years ago. The German, known for his big-game performances and big personality, has been a part of 16 clean sheets and his team has conceded only 22 goals under his watch this La Liga season.
Rudiger has taken his game to the next level this season, being the leader of the defensive unit after long-term injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao, and would aim to win yet another Champions League title for the Los Blancos next month.
CB: Vivian (Athletic Club)
Vivian has been rock solid in the centre of the defence for Athletic Club this season. The Spaniard is tall, pacy, and has exceptional defensive positioning. He has led his club to be the second-best defence in the league, leading the backline by example. The 24-year-old has played 32 times in the league so far this season.
LB: Yan Couto (Girona)
Yan Couto completes the team of the season on the left side of the defence. The Brazilian, on loan from Manchester City, has sparkled in Girona’s unbelievable La Liga season, with a goal and 10 assists in the league this season. He and Guttierez, also featuring from the same team, have formed an amazing link this season.

DM: Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)
Martin Zubimendi has been the valiant protection to Real Sociedad’s defence this La Liga season. Sociedad have conceded just 37 goals in as many La Liga games this season, and Zubimendi had a big role in it, playing 31 of those games. Additionally, he has also contributed with four goals and an assist.
CM: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)
There is nothing that hasn’t already been said about Jude Bellingham’s debut season in Spain. While many crumble under the pressure or take time to acclimatize, the Englishman made himself at home from game one, scoring 19 goals in the league this season, while also getting six assists in the process. The 20-year-old has delivered a season that will go down unforgotten in Real Madrid’s history.
CM: Alex Baena (Villareal)
Alex Baena has been one of the standouts in the league this season, racking up 13 assists to be on top of the assists charts, while also chipping in with two goals.
The 22-year-old has been Villareal’s most productive midfielder this season and helped unlock Alexander Sorloth’s goalscoring potential by providing him with consistent service. With bags of creativity and an eye for a pass, Baena has caught the eye of the fans in La Liga this season.
LW: Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid)
Vinicius Jr has been one of the best players in the league this La Liga season, finally filling the No.7 void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo many summers ago.
The Brazilian has 15 goals and six assists in the league this season and has terrorized defences with his attacking display. He has also shined in Europe and would be aiming to bring back the Champions League trophy to Madrid.
RW: Savio (Girona)
Savio has been one of the biggest breakout stars in La Liga this season, with his exceptional performances playing a huge part in Girona’s incredible Champions League qualification season. The Brazilian, on loan from ES Troyes in France, has 18 goal contributions in the league this season.
However, his threat goes beyond the numbers, as he is capable of dazzling defenders and taking them out of position, thus creating more opportunities for his teammates.
ST: Alexander Sorloth (Villareal)
Alexander Sorloth has had the best season of his career. Despite an incredible season from Girona’s Artem Dovbyk and a solid La Liga season for FC Barcelona‘s Robert Lewandowski, the Norwegian deserves a spot in the 11 after leading the league scoring charts with 23 goals. Alongside that, he also has six assists in what has been a complete season from the 28-year-old.
