The race for the title was settled in the final weekend

The Premier League 2023-24 season kickstarted back in August 2023. Now with the final games over with, clubs have found their resting spots on the league table. Let’s have a look at the final-day results and what they meant.

Matchday 38: Results

Liverpool 2-0 Wolves: Surely a result that Jürgen Klopp deserved dearly. The man is leaving the managerial post after almost nine years at the helm which came with good success.

Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham: Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham didn’t show any mercy to the relegated side Sheffield United.

Luton Town 2-4 Fulham: A thrilling game at Kenilworth Road. A whopping six goals were scored in the final game of Luton Town’s short-lived stay in the PL.

Brighton 0-2 Man United: Roberto De Zerbi has shown clearly what an average club can do in the division with his style of play. The Italian head coach leaves Brighton while his future is yet to be decided. And let’s see exactly what United are up to with Erik ten Hag’s leadership for next season.

Man City 3-1 West Ham: Manchester City started the game knowing that the title was in their hands unless they dropped points. But Pep Guardiola’s side didn’t even drop a sweat and in winning the battle almost effortlessly.

Arsenal 2-1 Everton: Arsenal did take things to the edge but once again they failed to realise the dream of lifting the title. Maybe next season Mikel Arteta will deliver.

Brentford 2-4 Newcastle: Another high-scoring day. This game was played at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Crystal Palace 5-0 Aston Villa: Unai Emery’s Aston Villa getting some final-day humbling by the Crystal Palace team.

Burnley 1-2 Nottingham Forest: Nottingham Forest could have gone down to the second division. But to do so, they needed to perform very poorly and create a ruckus out of their goal difference. Yeah, but Luton Town never won their game either for it to happen.

Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth: Chelsea may have had a stumbling start but things have finally fallen into place. They will be playing in Europe next season.

Premier League 2023-24 winners

There was the belief in the Emirates Stadium that West Ham would come aid Arsenal in their title charge by beating Manchester City. But City were too much to handle. It is the Sky Blues who have won their 10th PL title. They now have won the league title four times in a row since the 2020-21 season.

Race for Europe

The UEFA Champions League spots have been clinched by Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa. The Villans obviously are a surprise entrant having finished above the likes of Tottenham Hotspurs, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United.

The UEFA Europa League spot is secured for the fifth-place finishers Tottenham. But there is still a catch that will be decided upon the upcoming FA Cup final clash between Man City and Man United. If City wins, the sixth-placed side Chelsea also go to UEL for next season while the seventh side Newcastle will play in the UEFA Europa Conference League. If United wins the FA Cup final they enter Europe next season to play UEL while the sixth-placed side Chelsea goes to play UECL.

Back to the Championship: The relegation battle

Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town at the start of the season were new faces in the Premier League. They made it to the English first tier by getting promoted from the EFL Championship. But as things stand, the league was surely too hard for them to adapt to. And all three are going down. They will be swapped with Championship sides Leicester City, Ipswich Town and one of Leeds United or Southampton.
