Los Blancos have twice the number of victories over BVB

Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League final. For Madrid, this was their 15 UCL trophy while Dortmund will end up as the runners-up.

Real Madrid’s journey to the finals included winning all Group C games to finish as group winners. Then in the Round of 16, they overcame German outfit RB Leipzig by a 2-1 aggregate win, thanks to their 1-0 victory on the road in the first leg.

The quarter-finals were a really big deal, facing the defending champions Manchester City. The first leg witnessed a six-goal thriller at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, final scoreline of 3-3. Even after the second leg, there was no clear winner as the game went to a penalty shootout post extra time.

Los Blancos edged out City in the penalties finally to move a step closer. In the semi-finals, Bayern Munich showed up. A 4-3 aggregate win over Bayern allowed Madrid to finally claim a spot in the finals to be held at Wembley Stadium.

Borussia Dortmund prevailed as group winners even from the group of death (Group F: PSG, Milan and Newcastle). Their Round of 16 opponent were Dutch side PSV against whom they prevailed with much ease, 3-1 on aggregate.

In the quarter-finals, the Spanish side Atletico Madrid showed up. The Madrid-based team travelled to Signal Iduna Park, Germany, with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg. In the second leg, Dortmund outclassed them with a 4-2 win to move ahead with a 5-4 aggregate win.

With a 1-0 win a piece over both legs of the semi-finals against PSG, Die Schwarzgelben finally made it to the finals. Their last presence in the UCL finals came in the 2-1 defeat to Bayern, back in 2013.
