Top five youngest players to feature in UEFA Euro history

Although Jude Bellingham is on the list, he is not the youngest ever in Euro.

We are already into the latest edition which is the UEFA Euro 2024. It started on June 14 and will continue till July 14. It is a tournament organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), where the nations from Europe compete against each other every four years to become the best team in the continent.

The last time it was held was in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It was run under the same original name, however, UEFA Euro 2020. Italy became the champions by defeating England in penalties in the final. They now walk into the 2024 edition as the defending champions.

This year, we have 24 teams participating in the tournament with Germany as the host nation. Leipzig will serve as the host city and this will be the first time that Germany is serving as the solo host nation.

There have been many young players who have graced this Euro stage and have proved their talent and mettle in the competition. In this article, we will talk about the top five youngest players in the history of this continental competition.

5. Enzo Scifo – 18 years 115 days

Enzo Scifo stepped onto the football field for Belgium as the youngest player in UEFA Euro 1984. His age was 18 years and 115 days when he graced the Euros. During his career, he played for clubs in Belgium, France and Italy and managed to win several titles.

Scifo was a brilliant midfielder and always had a knack of scoring the decisive goals. He mostly played as an attacking midfielder behind the striker but has also played in the central midfield role.

4. Jetro Willems – 18 years 71 days

Jetro Willems of the Netherlands featured as the youngest player in the 2012 edition. His age was 18 years and 71 days when he stepped on the pitch wearing the Dutch colours. He currently plays as a left wing-back or left-back for Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo. Willems started for that game against Denmark to become the youngest star to feature until the UEFA Euro 2012.

3. Jude Bellingham – 17 years 349 days

Jude Bellingham, the highly talented English midfielder was one the youngest players to feature in the UEFA Euro 2020 which was held in 2021. His age was 17 years and 349 days when he first stepped onto the field in any Euro Cup game.

Bellingham currently plays for the Spanish club Real Madrid and has won the 2023-24 LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League. This was his first-ever season for the Los Blancos. Bellingham was extraordinary this completed season and was one of the best players in the world. England will greatly depend on him in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024.

2. Kacper Kozlowski – 17 years 246 days

Kacper Kozlowski went past Bellingham to become the youngest player in UEFA Euro 2020, held in 2021, by featuring in the match against Spain. His age at that moment was 17 years and 246 days. Kozlowski currently plays as a midfielder for Dutch club Vitesse and is serving his loan period from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

1. Lamine Yamal – 16 years 338 days

Lamine Yamal, the Spaniard, became the youngest ever player to feature in UEFA Euro history as he played against Croatia in the UEFA Euro 2024 Group B opener. His age was just 16 years and 338 days when he stepped onto the field against the Checkered Ones.

Yamal was spectacular during the game as he provided an audacious assist to Dani Carvajal for a goal as Spain thumped Croatia 3-0. Yamal is one of the next big things in world football.
