GTA 6 delay opens door for other games to take GOTY 2025

On May 2, 2025, Rockstar Games announced that they are delaying the release of GTA 6 and it will not release in fall 2025.

It now has a new release date, which is May 26, 2025. This has become the best news for gaming publishers as they won’t have to compete with this mega giant this year.

There were reports that many publishers were afraid and were waiting for Rockstar to announce the release date. They didn’t want to clash with the most awaited game of all time.

This has also cleared the road for other games to have a fair chance to win the Game of the Year (GOTY 2025).

Can’t predict a clear winner

This is a very certain fact that at this point, no one can truly predict which game will win the GOTY 2025. Till now, everyone thought GTA 6 would be an easy choice.

Now, with the latest delay, suddenly there are so many games that have a pretty good chance to win the Game of the Year award for 2025.

2025 has been proving to be one of the best gaming years, with so many great titles that have already launched and more to come.

We got Split Fiction, Blue Prince, Monster Hunter Wilds, Ghost of Yotei, Where Winds Meet, Crimson Desert, Elden Ring Nightreign, Oblivion Remastered and many more.

Personally for me, these three games have the most chance to win the GOTY 2025:

1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
2. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
3. Death Stranding 2

Both Clair Obscur and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 have been masterpieces and achieved major success this year.

Death Stranding 2 is yet to release, but we all know that it would be Kojima’s masterclass. The 10-minute new trailer alone proved it.

But there is still a chance for other games to win this time. That’s why you can’t predict easily this time with so many great games releasing this year.
