Looks interesting so far
Sloclap just revealed their new game, âRematch,â at The Game Awards 2024 recently, which was quite surprising. The studio is famous for martial arts-themed games like Sifu and Absolver.
Just hours before the Game Awards, they tweeted that they had some new exciting news to share at the event. Fans were really hoping for the next fighting game or a Sifu sequel; however, they were really surprised with a football game.
What to expect from Rematch
This new upcoming football game by the creators of Sifu is scheduled to be released in Summer 2025. This isnât your normal football game like PES or EA FIFA, instead, it is designed like a fast-paced game in 5v5 matches. If you watch the trailer, the first thought that will come into your mind will be Rocket League.
Each player controls only one character on the field, therefore strategic coordination is essential for victory. Unlike traditional soccer games, where you may manage a whole team, Rematch puts you in the shoes of a single player, making every second count, even when you donât have the ball.
The gameâs architecture ensures that players are continually engaged, with a novel twist that allows the goalkeeper to switch to a midfield defender while the team is on offense.
This will be an online multiplayer game, so there will be no bots and real players will be playing the matches. So, you can expect that at least this wonât be boring.
There are no fouls or offsides, so the action never stops, making the gameplay fast and interesting. This design creates a spirit where collaboration wins over individual heroics, accentuating the thrill of setting up a perfect assist rather than scoring yourself.
Visually the game looks like, graphics and animation will remind you of Sifu. The gameplay looks quite clunky and stiff to me, but I guess they might improve it by the launch date. If you have friends who play EA FC, then this Rematch football game might be really fun to play with them online against other online teams.
Rematch will start with competitive 5v5 modes and quickplay choices. Sloclap intends to keep the game fresh beyond launch by adding seasonal content such as new game modes and cosmetics, ensuring that Rematch evolves alongside its users.
