Valve officially raises Steam Deck prices, 1TB OLED now cost almost $1000

Memory shortages causing sky-high pricing

Valve is the latest company that has now officially joined the other companies in raising the prices of their hardware devices. They have now raised the Steam Deck OLED pricing and the increase in price is much larger than expected.

The company confirmed that they have to make this decision due to the ongoing global memory shortages and rising hardware production costs.

New Steam Deck prices

The new pricing of this handheld has pushed this device into a premium territory. There is no doubt that fans and gamers are pretty concerned after seeing the recent price hikes everywhere.

Here are the new prices:

• Steam Deck OLED 512GB – $789
• Steam Deck OLED 1TB – $949

This is roughly an increase of 43% for the 512GB model and nearly 46% for the 1TB variant. The company has already discontinued the lower-priced model, which means if you have to purchase this PC handheld, you have to spend a significant amount of money.

The device is at least back in stock at the official Valve store, but this new pricing also puts the device against some better competitors like ASUS ROG Ally and other Windows-based handheld gaming PCs.

Budget-friendly appeal is gone

One of the biggest reasons that many fans were buying this device was for its price. It was very affordable compared to other gaming laptops, PCs and handheld devices.

However, with the new price increase, it has lost that appeal. There is no doubt that Valve is now losing its competitive edge. It is not easy for everyone to purchase an almost $1000 handheld device for gaming.

What to expect from Steam Machine

This has also raised concerns for their upcoming console, Steam Machine. The Industry insider has already predicted that this device might cost around $700 at launch.
