Indian Sports Calendar October 2024: Major events to look forward to in third week

World Cup finals for archery and shooting will take place this week in the Indian sports calendar.

The third week of October has a lot in store for the Indian fans. The most awaited Hockey India league auction will take place. Teams will look to build a balanced squad at the auction. There is also the Sultan of Johar Cup (U21) that will be held in Malaysia later this week while the badminton caravan will move to Denmark.

Meanwhile, the Archery and Shooting World Cup season finals will also take place this week. In cricket, India will play two test matches against New Zealand, with the first test match will happen in Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. There are also squash, tennis, and cycling events to look forward to. Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi league will begin this week.

Major events to follow in October week 3 in Indian Sports Calendar

Archery

The Archery World Cup final is scheduled for this week. Winners from the first four stage of the World Cups and top four players via rankings in each category qualify for the Archery World Cup final. Five Indians have qualified for the event that will take place in Mexico.

Badminton

The badminton caravan moves to Denmark and after early exits at the Arctic Open, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will hope to go deep in Denmark Open.

  • October 15-20: Denmark Open

Cricket

The ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup will head into its final week with the group stages almost over. Only four teams will qualify for the group stage to play in the semifinals. Team India are still in the reckoning to reach the semis.

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s cricket team, after the whitewash of Bangladesh, will host New Zealand in a three-match test series.

Cycling

A total of six cyclists will represent India at the World Track Cycling Championships which will be held in Denmark. In sprint events, Ronaldo Singh, Esow Alben, Rojit Singh, and David Beckham have qualified, while Harshveer Sekhon and Meenakshi have qualified in the endurance disciplines.

Football

The top-flight domestic league will head into matchweek 5 this week. Bengaluru FC currently lead the standings with 10 points, while the Mumbai CityEast Bengal and Hyderabad FC are in the bottom three.

Hockey

The Indian men’s U21 team will compete in the Sultan of Johar Cup 2024. India, who finished with a bronze medal in the previous edition, will look to lift the title for a record fourth time. Back home, the Hockey India League player auction will take place from October 13-15 in New Delhi.

Kabaddi

Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League will start this week and a blockbuster two months of Kabaddi action will keep the fans busy. The opening match will take place between the Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls.

Shooting

The shooting World Cup final will also be held this week in Delhi. A total of 23 players will be participating in the ISSF World Cup final. Paris Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker, Swapnil Kusale and Sarabjot Singh won’t participate in this World Cup.

Squash

Joshna Chinappa, Veer Chautani and Ramit Tandon will be in action this week in the Hamilton, Richardson and US Open respectively. Abhay Sing, Tanvi Khanna and Akanksha Salunkhe will be in action in 4th Open de Lagord.

  • October 19-26: Comcast Business US Open Championships 2024
  • October 15-19: 4th Open de Lagord 2024

Tennis

Yuki Bhambri with his partner Albano Olivetti and Sriram Balaji with his partner Guido Andreozzi will participate in the Almaty Open. Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig will compete in the Vienna Open.

  • October 14-20: Almaty Open (ATP 250)
  • October 19-27: Vienna Open (ATP 500)
