Clubs across Europe have started putting in massive release clauses for their superstars lately.

Highest Buyout Clauses: Over the years, the World of football has become about so much more than just the game, with players going for sums of money that were scarcely dreamed of in the past.

Several clubs across the continent have adopted the system of including buyout clauses in their players' contracts, that ensure that they have a considerable payday, should their stars decide to leave the club.

This system is highly prevalent in Spain where we see some of the superstars of football, with immense buyout clauses attached to their contracts. Buyout clauses, however, are not allowed in England as they have been prohibited by the English FA.

We at Khel Now, take you through the players with the top 10 buyout clauses in World football.

Gareth Bale –€494m

Yet another Real Madrid player, Gareth Bale has a whopping buyout clause written into his contract. The winger has come under the scrutiny of late after his spat with manager, Zinedine Zidane who has stated, very publicly that he is not a fan of the Welshman.

Nevertheless, Bale’s accomplishments during his years at Madrid speak for themselves as his trophy cabinet has filled up considerably following his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Jordi Alba - €500m

In February of 2019, the Spanish left-back renewed his contract with FC Barcelona, which included a massive buyout of €488m. With 2 goals and 10 assists in the 2018-2019 season, Alba is one of the world’s elite full backs. The Spaniard is contracted with FCB until 2024, when he will be 35 years of age.

Marco Asensio – €691m

Marco Asensio burst onto the scene at the Bernabeau as a young explosive winger who was not shy of a goal or two. Madrid were quick to tie him down to a long term deal that included a 691 million buyout clause. Asensio has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer. If such a move was to take place, it would be interesting to see to what extent Madrid would enforce this clause.

Isco – 691m

The attacking midfielder has been in and out of the Madrid side in recent years but that has not stopped Madrid from including an enormous buyout clause into his contract. However, it is evident that the club do not indeed value him at €691 million, even reportedly offering the Spaniard to Manchester United as part of a deal to bring Paul Pogba to Spain.

Vinicius Jr – 691m

The Brazillian attacker was initially brought into Madrid as part of their Castilla squad. However, a string of good performances and injuries saw the wonderkid take the step up into the first team. In Vinicius, Real Madrid has a player with all the potential to be one of the best in the World.

Lionel Messi – €698m

Buyout clauses become rather obsolete when it comes to Lionel Messi who does not seem likely to leave his beloved FC Barcelona any time soon. The 30-year-old is arguably the best player on the planet and might just be worth his buyout clause in today’s market.

Luka Modric – €750m

World Cup finalist, Ballon D’Or winner, Champion’s League winner, La Liga winner, Luka Modric has done it all at Real Madrid. The 33-year-old is nearing the latter stages of his career but still has a €750m buyout clause written into his contract, a sign of just how much Los Blancos value his services.

Brahim Diaz – €750m

Diaz was brought to Madrid after failing to truly break into the first team at Manchester City. Zinedine Zidane is said to be a huge admirer of the midfielder who looks set to be an integral part of the Real Madrid machine for years to come, particularly with such a hefty release clause in his contract.

Antoine Griezmann - €800m

On the 12th of July 2019, Antoine Griezmann completed his long awaited move from Atletico Madrid to FC Barcelona for €120m. The French star’s contract also reportedly includes a buyout clause of €892 million. It remains to be seen if Griezmann be a success at FCB but it is evident that his new employers already hold him in very high regard.

Karim Benzema - €1b

The Frenchman has been a fantastic servant to Real Madrid’s cause over the years but has got his fair share of critics as well. At €1b, Benzema has the largest buyout clause in World football. The striker's playtime at Madrid may be affected this season, with the arrival of Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard to the club.
