Clubs from the Premier League dominate the Top 20 list this year.

Deloitte, a giant in the professional services network industry based out of the United Kingdom, released its annual Football Money League 2020. It is a ranking system of the richest football clubs in the world based on the revenue that is generated by their football-related operations. In today’s world, a football club is much more than a football team competing in a particular competition. It’s a business model where the success and growth of the club depends on multiple off-the-field factors. The clubs are involved in marketing, brand management, merchandising, public relations and many other operations that build a successful business. [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] World-famous football clubs like Bayern Munich, Liverpool or FC Barcelona are all supported across the globe and the resulting popularity brings in a lot of revenue through merchandising, broadcasting rights and several other sources. Broadcasting rights for elite competitions are becoming vital for an increased revenue. And hence, qualifying for European competitions like UCL and UEL makes a huge impact on the commercial success of a club. The clubs' on-field success, competing in elite competitions, signing high-profile players, etc. can all contribute to their overall annual revenue. The Football Money League 2020 ranking system covers clubs’ financial performance in the season gone by and ranks the reigning Spanish champions, FC Barcelona, as the richest club in the world. The Blaugrana have overtaken Real Madrid CF at the top, while Manchester United remain in third place.

Deloitte Football Money League 2020 Rankings

Here are a few takeaways from the Football Money League 2020: Evidently, FC Barcelona emerge as the highest-revenue generating football club for the first-time ever, also becoming the first club to create revenue in excess of €800m, at €840.8m. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] The top three positions have been occupied by the trio of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United for three years in a row. Manchester United remain the top-ranked English club despite a dwindling phase in terms of on-field success but a continued strong presence commercially. Tottenham Hostpur (8) emerge as the richest London club ahead of Chelsea (9) and Arsenal (11) after a good performance in the UEFA Champions League and moving into their brand new state-of-the-art stadium. The combined revenue of the Top-20 clubs reached a record sum of €9.3bn. FC Barcelona reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and won the LaLiga for the eighth time in 11 years. But the secret to their ascension has been their first-hand control over merchandising and licensing operations, instead of outsourcing it to third parties. Interestingly, Premier League clubs continue to dominate financially with eight rank holders in the Top-20. Large credit for that can be attributed to the massive share of revenue earned from broadcasting rights by the clubs in a league which attracts highest amount of viewership. The rest of the positions consisting of the Top-20 are as follows: 11. Arsenal - €445.6m 12. Borussia Dortmund - €377.1m 13. Atlético de Madrid - €367.6m 14. Inter Milan - €364.6m [KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News | Article Continues Below"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS] 15. Schalke 04 - €324.8m 16. AS Roma - €231.0m 17. Olympique Lyonnais - €220.8m 18.
