Sandro Tonali was suspended from the game for 10 months last October

Sandro Tonali, a midfield player for Newcastle United, has been punished with wrongdoing regarding alleged infractions of the Football Association’s betting regulations.

Tonali is accused of placing bets on games between August 12, 2023, and October 12, 2023, fifty times in violation of FA rule E8. The 23-year-old is allowed to reply until April 5th.In October of the previous year, Tonali struck a plea deal after an investigation into illegal betting by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the Italian Prosecutor’s Officer resulted in a 10-month suspension, a €20,000 satisfactory, and an eight-month therapy programme to deal with his problems.

Newcastle United acknowledges a misconduct charge received by Sandro Tonali in respect of alleged breaches of FA betting rules,” read a club statement. “Sandro continues to fully comply with relevant investigations and he retains the club’s full support. Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time.”

Early in July, Tonali moved to Newcastle for a reported £55 million. The Italian international completed 12 games for the Magpies across all competitions until his season was cut short. He netted on the opening day in a 5-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa. It won’t be possible for him to compete again until August 27.Dan Ashworth, the athletic director of Newcastle, said that the Tonali inquiry was “a whirlwind” and a “massive shock” when he was on garden leave. “These things happen in football, but obviously when it happens in this context it’s not something you expect,” Ashworth said in a statement made in early November.

“Our first port of call is to look after and support him. It’s probably more difficult for him than anyone else. We’re putting together a programme of what he can and can’t do over the coming months to get him back flying in August.”
