6:57 PM The men's long jump and the women's javelin throw are going on simultaneously now.

6:52 PM Poovamma Raju of Karnataka finishes in second spot clocking 53.54 secs. Tamil Nadu's Revathi Veeramani grabs the third spot with 53.71 secs.

6:50 PM Priya finishes the race in 53.29 secs. The Olympic Qualifying mark was 51.35 secs.

6:42 PM Annu Rani sets a new meet record with her first throw, achieving 62.83 m. She breaks her own meet record of 59.87m, which was created in 2016.

6:38 PM All eyes on Annu Rani now as the women's javelin throw is underway.

6:36 PM Vikrant Panchal of Haryana finishes second with 46.83 secs. Whereas, Delhi's Sarthak Bhambri takes third spot with 47.25 secs. The Olympic Qualifying mark was 44.90 secs.

6:30 PM The men's 400m run will be today's first event.

6:25 PM This will be the penultimate day of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. Long jumper Shaili Singh has shattered the youth national record in the ongoing tournament. However, so far, no Indian athlete has qualified for the Olympics via this tournament. This is the final event for high-profile athletes like Dutee Chand, Hima Das and Harmilan Bains to grab a quota.

Time is running out for Indian athletes to book their spot in the upcoming quadrennial event. As such, we are all set for a pivotal day of action at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala.

6:00 PM The most impressive performer at the recently concluded Indian Athletics Grand Prix 4 was shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor. He qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a hefty throw of 21.49m. The 26-year-old’s previous best was 20.92m. In fact, Toor went past the qualifying mark of 21.10m with each of his four legal puts. Therefore, he became the 11th individual Indian track and field athlete to qualify for Tokyo 2020.

Several others are now also looking to repeat the same feat at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships.

  • Bhawna Jat, Women’s 20km race walking
  • Priyanka Goswami, Women’s 20km race walking
  • Tajinderpal Toor, Men’s shot put
  • Muhammed Anas, VK Vismaya, Jisna Mathew, and Noah Nirmal Tom (4×400 Mixed Relay Team)

The National Inter-State Athletics Championships, an Olympic qualifier, will be the last chance for Indian athletes to book their place in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The events that are lined up for the fourth day at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships are 400m, 1500m and javelin throw for women while the men will participate in 400m, 1500m, 4x100m relay, long jump and shot put.

Several high-profile names such as Dutee Chand, M Sreeshankar, Kamalpreet Kaur, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Shivpal Singh, Muhammed Anas, Harmilan Bains, Annu Rani, Seema Punia and others will be in action in the tournament.

The 60th edition of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships will take place from June 25 to June 29 at the National Institute of Sports and the Punjabi University in Patiala.
