Earlier, Parul Chaudhary also failed to make the finals on women’s 5000m.
Parul Chaudhary made an impressive debut at Paris Olympics 2024 competing in the women’s 5000m heats at the scenic Stade de France although she failed to advance to the finals. On Sunday, she raced in her specialty, the women’s 3000m steeplechase. Parul is the national record holder in the event with a time of 9:15.31.
Ranked World Number 16, India’s Parul Chaudhary entered the race confidently competing in Heat 1 of the women’s steeplechase. Her performance was eagerly anticipated as she took to the track.
Parul struggled from the outset starting at the back of the leader’s pack. Despite covering good ground early and moving to ninth place as she approached the third lap, her position deteriorated.
By the two-thirds mark, she dropped to 10th among 12 runners with only the top five advancing to the finals.

With the final 1000 meters remaining, Parul’s chance to secure a top five finish was slim. Ultimately, she finished eighth falling short of qualifying for the finals. Parul finished with a time of 9:23.39, missing out on the final as only the top five qualified.
Despite achieving a season best, her performance was insufficient to advance. Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai won the heat with a time of 9:10.51.
