Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra etched his name in the history of Indian sports as he clinched the elusive gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in athletics. The youngster was very promising in the qualification rounds and only got better as the finals came in. He became the first Indian track and field athlete to win a medal for India at the Olympics.
It was his second attempt of 87.57m which wrote history in Indian sports on August 7. He was closely followed by two athletes from the Czech Republic, Jakub Vadlejch (silver) and Vítězslav Veselý (bronze).
