Jannik Sinner vs Marcos Giron prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Australian Open 2025

Jannik Sinner is the defending champion.
Current world number one, Jannik Sinner, continues his dominant run Down-Under as he aims to become the second youngest man to defend the Australian Open. The Italian started slowly in his second round against Tristan Schoolkate, and even lost the first set.
Sinner was unable to land his serves and lost his cool on occasions, which was very uncharacteristic from the defending champion. The 22-year-old’s dry spell didn’t last long though. Once he found his mojo, there was nobody stopping him, as Sinner destroyed the home-town boy to win the match in four sets.
Being the top seed has it’s privilleges in a major slam. Sinner’s projected draw continues to be straight-forward with no big names set to cross his path until the quarterfinals. Daniil Medvedev’s defeat in a midnight five-setter could mean that the Italian may not face a seeded player until the semifinals.

Preview
Jannik Sinner brushed aside Nicholas Jarry in straight sets in the initial round but received stiff competition intially from Tristan Schoolkate in the second encounter. The Aussie, with the support of the crowd fought hard but once Sinner found his groove, it was a one-sided affair. While Schoolkate can be proud of his efforts, it was not enough to keep the top seed down.
The Italian will now take on Marcos Giron, who is ranked #46. An experienced campaigner who has been at the ATP circuit, Giron has had his best-ever campaign in Melbourne this year. The American never managed to make it past the first round for the last five years, but his dedication and perseverance finally paid off.
His route to the third round hasn’t been easy. He first downed Yannick Hanfmann from Germany in four sets and then played a gruelling contest against Etcheverry in a nail-biting five setter. To come up with the goods once again, against the event’s best player is not going to be easy for the American. The duo last met in 2023 at the Shanghai Masters, with Sinner taking the honors in straight sets.
