Carlos Alcaraz will be officially world No #2 in ATP tour after China Open 2024.
Carlos Alcaraz will be moving up a spot in the ATP ranking after notching up a straight set quarter-final win in China Open 2024. He will be replacing Alexander Zverev in the rankings who withdrew from China Open 2024 after having been featured in Laver Cup. The rankings are still led by Jannik Sinner who has a 4000 point lead over Alcaraz.
The results of the China Open would not deter Sinnerâs reign in the top as like Alcaraz, the Italian has also reached the semi-finals of the event. They are projected to meet in the finals at Beijing which will be held on October 2. While Sinner would be looking to end the season on top, Alcaraz will hope to continue his good form and dethrone his rival in the next two months.
The Spaniard was last ranked No #2 in June and started Wimbledon 2024 as No #3. But this time, he will look to maintain a healthy lead over his rivals while keeping an eye on the throne. He still has a lot of ground to cover and needs to win multiple events to have a chance to be on top. Meanwhile Sinner has been consistent with his performances as an early defeat would mean a threat to his rankings.
His biggest threat will be Alcaraz who looks to be in good shape in the China Open. Sinner needs to register a couple of wins in every event to maintain the lead over Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz becomes second fastest man to record 200 career wins
After defeating Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of China Open 2024, Alcaraz clinched his 200th career ATP win. It took him 252 matches to get to the feat as only John McEnroe has achieved it faster in 245 matches. Rafael Nadal is placed third with 255 matches while Novak Djokovic and Sinner needed 274 matches. Meanwhile, Roger Federer reached the mark in his 302nd match.
Alcaraz had recorded his 100th career ATP win in Indian Wells 2023 by beating Griekspoor in the third round. The youngster reached the century mark in 132 matches and was the second fastest as John McEnroe took 131 matches to achieve the feat. There are many milestones to come up as Alcaraz will hope to shatter records with his consistency.
The 21 year old is four wins away from 50 wins this season as only Sinner and Zverev have managed it so far. Alcaraz will be next seen in action against Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of China Open 2024.
