Yannick Noah retired from professional tennis in 1997.
Former French tennis player Yannick Noah will succeed Bjorn Bjorg as the new captain of Team Europe at the 2025 Laver Cup, which will take place in San Francisco, California.
Talking about Yannick Noah, he was the last Frenchman to win a Grand Slam singles title. In 1983, he became the first and only Frenchman to win at Roland-Garros. Noah also reached his career-best singles ranking of 3 in the same year.
In addition, he’s France’s highest-ranked male player since the rankings were introduced in 1973. Moreover, he was also France’s Davis Cup (1991, 1996 and 2017) and Billie Jean King Cup (1997) captain, leading both teams to championships. Yannick Noah was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005.
Talking about the new role, the Frenchman said, “I am truly honoured to have been asked to take on the role as Team Europe captain for the Laver Cup. I’ve been out of the game for a while, doing my music, but I am really excited for this new adventure.”
