To promote the documentary titled Federer: Twelve Final Days, Prime Video came up with a unique promo across the iconic Tower Bridge in London.

Legendary tennis player Roger Federer was last seen in action at the Laver Cup in 2022. The 20-time Grand Slam winner’s final 12 days on the tennis court were captured by award-winning director Asif Kapadia and his co-director Joe Sabia. On Thursday (June 20), FEDERER: Twelve Final Days was released on Prime Video.

As part of the promotion Amazon Prime Video came up with a unique promo across the iconic Tower Bridge in London. The promo shows the Swiss maestro playing his final match at the 2022 Laver Cup, while the other tower portrays him playing one of his earliest competitive matches.

The graphics are set in such a way that it looks like a young Federer is passing the ball to the grown-up version of the legend. The middle of the bridge then lights up with the documentary’s digital poster. ” Federer, past and present, on Tower Bridge.” The post has garnered more than two lakh views so far.

The 88-minute long documentary premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 10, 2024. 10 days later it was released on Prime Video.

Roger Federer played his final match alongside Rafael Nadal

Federer played the final match alongside great rival Rafael Nadal. The two stalwarts of the sport met 40 times in their illustrious singles careers and three more times in tour-level doubles matches. But, this was the first time they were on the same side of the court in an official match.

Team Europe’s Federer and Nadal lost the match against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. But, the match was more about emotions than the result. Two of the all-time greats of the sport shared an emotional moment together on their team bench.

Meanwhile, the 2008 Wimbledon final between Nadal and Federer was undoubtedly one of the most iconic matches in tennis. At the end of four hours and 48 minutes of play, the Spaniard prevailed 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7. Nevertheless, the Swiss won the Wimbledon title a record eight times.

Federer, who won three different Grand Slams (Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open) at least five times, announced his decision to retire from professional tennis after a celebrated 25-year career spanning 1,500 matches. It was one of the most closely-guarded retirements in sports history.

The 42-year-old has won the third most number of men’s singles Grand Slam titles in the history of the sport, behind Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic.
