Backstage update on Alberto Del Rio’s WWE return rumors
Alberto Del Rio worked for WWE from 2010 to 2014 and 2015 to 2016, where he was a time champion within a short span of time. During the end phase of his time in WWE, Del Rio was involved in wellness violations, disagreement and unhappiness with the company leading to his release from the contract. He then wrestled in various independent circuits, and at Impact wrestling. He also fought in Mixed Martial Arts and fought in UFC earlier last year.
Last year when McMahon announced his retirement from WWE, Del Rio announced that he would be interested in returning to WWE. However a recent update shut down his return rumors.
Alberto Del Rio WWE return?
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Alberto Del Rio stated that he wished to head back to WWE after McMahon lost his power. Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported earlier last year,
“Alberto El Patron wrestled on 10/5 in Aguascalientes and said it was his last match of the year due to a knee injury. Alberto is also claiming he was headed back to WWE last year until Vince McMahon lost power.”
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select posted an update on Del Rio’s WWE return status by discussing with a source, where Ross confirmed that he has no chance of returning to WWE.
Sean Ross Sapp wrote on his report and shared a screenshot of his conversation with the WWE source. He wrote, “According to Del Rio, he was planned for a WWE return before Vince McMahon had retired. We reached out to a WWE higher up that said, ‘No f*cking chance.'”
On the screenshot he attached on X,
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com asked a source, “Did you see that Alberto Del Rio said he was close to coming back to you all last year?”
To which the source replied, “I wouldn’t be upset if you posted this verbatim, eve a direct screen shot. No f*cking chance.”
