Royal Rumble winners pointing at the WrestleMania sign became a tradition!
The Royal Rumble match is one of the most exciting matches in the pro-wrestling industry, where wrestlers are focused on eliminating their opponents, by tossing them over the top rope. The match has a separate fanbase for a number of reasons including the match stipulation, surprise entrances, extreme athleticism and so on.
This is the first event that kicks off the road to WrestleMania, with the Royal Rumble match winner earning a direct spot at WrestleMania with a championship match of the title he chose. More than this, the iconic celebration of the Rumble match winners has a separate fanbase.
Although each wrestler has a separate celebration style, the iconic celebration of pointing out at the WrestleMania sign after a rumble match win remains a tradition for years. This became a debate on the internet and most believe that it must be Randy Orton in 2009, however here we take a quick fact check on the creator of the iconic pointing celebration.
Is Randy Orton the first to point to the WrestleMania sign after Royal Rumble win?
No, Randy Orton is not the first one to point at the WrestleMania sign, however, he is the second. John Cena was the first one to point at the WrestleMania sign after winning the 2008 Royal Rumble match. Until then the champions only celebrated and stared at the sign from long and no one pointed to it.
Cena kicked off the iconic celebration standing on the turnbuckle and pointing to the WrestleMania sign for the pyros. This became a trend and everyone started to follow the footpaths of Cena in the upcoming years. However, Triple H missed the posing in 2015, as he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as the prize of victory. Although Triple H missed out, the iconic celebration continues till date and Cody Rhodes is the last member to point at the WrestleMania sign after the Royal Rumble win earlier this year.
In the women’s division, Asuka was the first one to point at the WrestleMania sign after winning the maiden Women’s Royal Rumble match back in 2018 and the trend continues.
