“The Final Boss” made a triumphant return at WrestleMania 40 Night 1 main event
The Rock triumphantly returned to WWE on 1st night at WrestleMania 40, teaming with Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the largest tag team battle in event history. With The Rock stating that he is playing the “long game” with his WWE return, there are anticipated to be numerous twists and turns before his next match. So, what does this mean for the Rock? So, let’s look at three potential opponents The Rock can face on his WWE return:
3. Seth Rollins
It might be argued that Seth “Freakin” Rollins had a direct role in The Bloodline’s collapse at WrestleMania. Not only did he team up with Cody Rhodes to face Rock and Roman Reigns on Saturday night, but he was also the “shield” he told The American Nightmare he would be in Sunday’s main event.
Rollins directly contributed to Rhodes’ title victory over Reigns and the end of his famous 1,316-day run, and he would be the ideal first opponent for The Rock on his return to the WrestleMania main event. The Visionary is also an all-time in-ring performer. He is a workhorse for the company, which he takes pride in, and he might assist Rock to get a worthy singles match.
2. Cody Rhodes
The most obvious candidate for Rock’s next opponent is Cody Rhodes, the new undisputed WWE universal champion who appeared on Monday Night Raw’s opening segment. The seeds have been sown for a battle in the coming year, maybe at WrestleMania 41. More importantly, it is an appropriate next step in the story’s growth.
Rock also defeated Rhodes in Saturday’s tag team main event, lending credence to the suggestion that he should face The American Nightmare soon.
The proper setting for such a match is WrestleMania, where the storyline may revolve around Rhodes’ ability to defeat The Final Boss. Especially given the possibility that Rock may make life a living nightmare as a member of the Board of Directors.
1. Roman Reigns
One of the big moments from the tag team’s main event at WrestleMania 40 was Roman Reigns‘ wayward spear to Rock, which left The Tribal Chief clearly disturbed. It not only put the heels at risk of losing the match, but it also hinted at potential conflict between them.
The Rock taking over The Bloodline in Reigns’ absence and changing how things are done, or even maybe adding new faces like Jacob Fatu, is a wonderful opportunity to lay the groundwork for The Tribal Chief’s return and struggle with The Final Boss for family dominance.
Reigns vs Rock may not have occurred in 2024, but it remains a credible, box office major event that WWE must offer at some point in the future. As long as both parties remain open to it, of course.
