Roman Reigns is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of the modern era, who is having a legendary run with WWE. Reigns has been on WWE television since 2012, making a huge impact on the main roster both as a face and a heel. Roman is a nine-time champion in WWE, with six world championship reigns.
He is the 17th Grand Slam champion and has been the default face of WWE for almost a decade. As we know much about Reigns’ in-ring career, here are some of the unknown facts about him, which could shock you.
5. Roman Reigns was an NFL star before WWE
Roman Reigns played football for three years, before making his move to WWE. Roman was a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football team. He also got signed by the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL & played for the Edmonton Eskimos in CLF. However, he retired from the NFL after being found to be affected by Leukemia for the first time.
4. Violate wellness policy
In 2018, Roman Reigns crossed WWE’s wellness policy by failing to pass the drug test and got suspended for 30 days. Roman himself had addressed the situation at that time and apologized for his actions. WWE after his returned handed him the United States Championship, instead of pushing him for the WWE Championship or the Universal Championship, despite him being in the prime.
3. No Bloodline connection with The Rock
Roman Reigns & The Rock are billed to be cousins, as per the WWE storyline. However, both are not blood-related. In the Anoa’i family tree, Rock comes in the lineage of Peter Miavia, however, both are billed to be cousins, as both are in the same generation, however, there is no blood connection between them.
2. Not the first option for Shield
The Shield is one of the most popular & iconic trios of WWE, involving Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins. However, Roman Reigns was not the first option to be part of Shield. Back in 2012, Punk created a reinforcement Shield and wanted Kassios Ohno as a part of Shield, however, WWE denied Ohno and replaced him with Roman Reigns.

During the COVID-19 pandemic era, Roman was absent from February 2020 to August 2020, considering his medical reasons (Leukemia), where he has a high chance of getting affected. Roman was originally planned to face Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 but was scrapped and Braun Strowman replaced him. Paul Heyman in a backstage interview then revealed that Roman considered himself retired in 2020, but it was a miracle when he returned to the company.
