These wrestlers could bid farewell to the Stamford-based promotion next year.
Since the Endeavor group takeover, WWE has changed how it negotiates contract extensions with its superstars. Earlier, the company was in a hurry to keep a particular grappler on board, whereas now, the Stamford-based promotion has taken the wait-and-watch approach.
Fans might see this tactic in full effect with a plethora of wrestlers’ contract terms expiring soon. But which are those performers who could exit the company? Join us now as we look at five superstars who could leave WWE in 2025.
5. Xavier Woods
Xavier Woods has always functioned as a trusted soldier both for Vince McMahon and Triple H. His versatility and ability to adapt seamlessly to any storyline have been an asset for WWE for years. But the wrestling juggernaut would surely be wondering about whether to keep or split The New Day.
With Big E out of the picture for an indefinite period and an eye toward Kofi Kingston’s singles career, it does make sense to finally disband the group. There’s little doubt about Woods’ ability in one-on-one competitions, but he has never had a sustained singles career with the wrestling juggernaut.
Add to that his contract expiring at the end of 2024, and a strong argument could be made for the former TNA grappler leaving WWE in 2025.
4. Dragon Lee
Dragon Lee’s sublime run in NXT created waves around the wrestling world, so much so that the powers that be in WWE called him up to the main roster in no time. The only problem? He failed to recreate the magic he conjured up during his stint in the black and gold brand.
Perhaps the creative could be blamed for not putting Lee into an intriguing storyline. Instead, pairing him up with the LWO meant that the Lucha Libre wrestler was overshadowed by the biggest little man, Rey Mysterio. The former NXT North American Champion’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of 2025.
If the Stamford-based promotion isn’t able to muster anything meaningful for the masked sensation by then, he might have to consider his options and leave WWE for a rival promotion, possibly, AEW.
3. Kofi Kingston
The other New Day member on this list, Kofi Kingston, has had a massively successful career in both the singles as well as the tag team divisions of WWE. There’s not much the 43-year-old is yet to achieve in the wrestling business.
Kingston’s arrangement with his employers is set to end in December 2024. The global wrestling phenomenon would be toiling hard over whether to grant an extension to the former WWE champion’s contract or not. It’ll all depend upon how interested Kington is in continuing with WWE going into 2025.
If either of the parties is unsure, we could very well see the former Intercontinental champion leave the promotion next year.
2. The Miz
If someone had told a WWE fan in 2001 that the Tough Enough season 4 runner-up would boast of one of the longest careers in the company’s history, they’d laugh their hearts out. But a look at The Miz‘s stellar association with the wrestling juggernaut, which is in its 18th year, proved that he has done just that.
The former WWE champion seldom gets his fair share of plaudits for his herculean feats, which are seemingly impossible for a complete outsider. But at 44 years old, it’s hard to predict how many years the veteran performer has left in him. This will precisely be the question when the Stamford-based promotion sits to negotiate The Miz’s contract, which will run out at the end of 2025.
If both parties aren’t of the same creative vision, it could mean the former WrestleMania main eventer’s exit from WWE. Given his vast experience, there’d surely be interest from a certain wrestling promotion based in Jacksonville.
1. Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens has achieved what many superstars have failed to do, which is staying relevant in WWE for nearly a decade. The Canadian didn’t look back after his blockbuster main roster debut in 2015. Owens is always in the mix, usually hovering in the mid-card, but frequent flirtations with the top-card aren’t uncommon for him.
Moreover, his impeccable character work, coupled with an equally impressive ring work, has meant that the former US champion has had a huge fan following in the Triple-H run company. WWE wouldn’t want to part ways with such an accomplished performer, which may force the conglomerate to go against its recent contract negotiations tactics and shell out the checkbook for Owens as his terms with the promotion are set to end in December 2024.
However, the former NXT champion might be reluctant to re-upping with the Stamford-based promotion as he reportedly took a lot of convincing last time around. It’ll be interesting to see if Owens sticks with WWE or if he chooses a lucrative offer from the likes of Tony Khan.
All the superstars mentioned on this list might not be a part of the WWE roster at the end of 2025. Contrarily, a majority of them might choose to extend with the company. It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds with regard to these wrestler’s future with WWE.
