The American Nightmare has been from WWE programming since last month.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has been absent from WWE television since the August 8 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Rhodes suffered a brutal beatdown at the hands of Drew McIntyre, who Claymore’d him through the announce desk.
This was done to write off Cody, as he has been filming the Street Fighter film, in which he stars as Guile. Reports have indicated that Rhodes will be back in time for Wrestlepalooza, and the plan is for him to face McIntyre at that event.
Wrestlepalooza is set for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will usher in the new era of WWE PLEs on ESPN.
Triple H confirms Cody Rhodes’ appearance for Wrestlepalooza

WWE CCO Triple H recently appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss the deal with ESPN, the upcoming Wrestlepalooza PLE, and more.
During the appearance, Triple H confirmed the rumors and announced that Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will be coming back on September 20th for WWE Wrestlepalooza. However, the exact plans have not been revealed.
Rhodes might make his return on the go-home show of SmackDown this Friday, where McIntyre is set to battle Randy Orton. This return can be used to set up the match for Wrestlepalooza.
“I will give you a spoiler right now… Cody Rhodes will be at Wrestlepalooza,” Triple H said.
Cody Rhodes kicked off his second title run at SummerSlam
After dropping the Undisputed WWE title to John Cena at WrestleMania, Rhodes bounced back at SummerSlam, pinning Cena to regain the title in the main event of Night 2 of the PLE.
This kicked off his second title run, and now it seems like he is set to defend the title for the first time in his second reign. Cody’s first title reign lasted 378 days, which consisted of eight successful title defenses.
