Vince McMahon is known for several controversial moments in WWE history!

Vince McMahon is one of the biggest business heads, who has been owning WWE since the 1980s with Titan Sports. Despite being one of the biggest business heads and the former chairman of WWE, he was involved in several controversial moments throughout his run.

Here we take a look at the top 5 most controversial moments of Vince McMahon in WWE history.

5. Montreal Screwjob

The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most popular controversies in the history of WWE. In late 1997, WWF Champion Bret Hart was set to leave the company for WCW, where Vince McMahon got pissed off and wanted Hart to drop the title to Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series, but Hart refused. McMahon took Hart’s refusal as a disrespect and was involved during the match.

During the match, Michaels performed a Sharpshooter on Hart, where McMahon asked to ring the bell and announced Michaels as the new WWF Champion. The screwjob against Bret Hart in his hometown, made Hart leave WWE and spit in the face of McMahon for the unfair decision.

4. Make Trish Stratus bark like a dog

On the road to WrestleMania X-Seven, where McMahon got into a narrative angle of getting split from his wife Linda and starting a relationship with Trish Stratus. McMahon, on a bid that he could do anything with Trish, humiliated her in front of the live crowd. McMahon called Stratus to the ring and asked her to strip her clothes off one-by-one, and then to bark like a dog. This became a huge controversy in McMahon’s and Trish Stratus’ career.

3. Faking his death

In 2007 after a disappointing Fans Appreciation Night, got upset by the fans and got into a limousine backstage. However, the Limo exploded, when he shut the door. Fans were shocked, unable to react to what happened to him. There was a McMahon death angle, however it was presumed and not real. However, after Benoit’s tragedy, McMahon announced that his death angle was only a part of the storyline.

2. Chris Benoit Tribute Show

On June 25, 2007, after Chris Benoit’s passing, WWE canceled Monday Night Raw and Vince McMahon hosted the Chris Benoit Memorial Show, to celebrate the life of Benoit. WWE later regretted it, when they were hit by the facts knowing Benoit heartlessly murdered his family before killing himself. This was one of the biggest controversies that McMahon would regret to date. Despite the tribute package, McMahon later erased Benoit from WWE history.

1. Continued the show after Owen Hart’s tragic death

At the 1999 Owen the Edge pay-per-view, Owen Hart was scheduled to face Godfather for the WWF Intercontinental Championship. Hart was in the Blue Blazer superhero gimmick, where he was supposed to enter the ring from the suspending harness. However, the equipment gave out and Owen Hart fell from 70 feet height to the top rope to the chest. The match was called off and Owen was carried to the hospital.

The show was paused for 15 minutes and the show continued with other matches. After one hour of restarting the show, Hart passed away due to internal bleeding and Jimm Ross announced his passing to the live audience. Despite the tragic passing of Hart, Vince McMahon and WWF officials continued the show. This became a huge controversy at the moment and the VHS or DVD for the show was never released.
