Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has revealed the Indian squad that will travel to feature in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The upcoming mega event will take place in the USA and Caribbean Islands in June. Rohit Sharma will lead the team, while Hardik Pandya will be his deputy. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will be the other top-order batters.

The squad saw the return of Rishabh Pant and Yuzvendra Chahal at the international level. Apart from that, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube have also been given a chance after their performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, there are a few names that were part of the Indian T20I squad for the last few series but haven’t been picked in the World Cup squad.

1. Rinku Singh

Since the IPL 2023, India have tried Rinku Singh as the finisher in T20I cricket. And he also responded pretty well. He has an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.24 in the T20Is for India, which is incredible. However, despite that, he is not part of the team, which is a surprise for many fans. But he will be travelling with the team as a reserve.

2. Shubman Gill

Another big name that misses out on the squad is Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old has been India’s highest scorer in all three formats in the last couple of years. He is also doing well in the IPL 2024. But the evolution of Yashasvi Jaiswal and the backing he has gotten from the management have forced selectors to drop Gill. But he is part of the reserve and, if needed, can come in.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad led Team India at the Asian Games and won gold medal last year. He also slammed a brlliant T20I century against Australia after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He missed the South African T20Is due to injury, and he has been dropped from the squad. Despite his brilliant performances in the IPL 2024, he is not part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

4. Jitesh Sharma

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, India tried a number of keepers in all three formats. They stuck with Jitesh Sharma in the T20 internationals. He also played a few good knocks for India in T20Is. But it looks like the return of Pant has certainly hit his chances. He is another name to miss out on in the India squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

5. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was one of the highest run-scorers for India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at home. After that, he played two T20Is against Australia and scored a fifty in one game, when he was vice-captain of the side. Not to forget, he also has been in and out of the Indian team due to injury and other reasons. However, now it looks like his comeback to the Indian side might be too far as he was sacked from central contracts earlier this year as well.

6. Ravi Bishnoi

The selectors picked four spinners for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 but dropped Ravi Bishnoi. Notably, he is currently the fifth-ranked T20I bowler in the world. He also achieved the No. 1 ranking after winning the Player of the Series award against Australia in T20 series in 2023 at home. But now, he has been left out of Indian squad for the upcoming marquee tournament.
