Top five Indian athletes with most medals won in single edition of Asian Games

Esha Singh is the only women’s athlete to feature in the list.
The Asian Games 2023 has started on a bright note and the excitement has peeked up among the fans around Asia. India have come out firing from the opening day itself with historic gold medals in cricket, shooting and equestrian among other events. Several athletes have won multiple medals for India at the Asian Games and in the 2023 edition Esha Singh and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar added their names to the list after bagging four medals each.
Let’s look at the top five Indian athletes with most medals won in a single edition of the Asian Games.
Hima Das (3)
The first Indian to ever win track event at the World U20 Championships, Hima Das, won a total of three medals at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. She won two gold and one silver in the 400m category. The national record holder won the gold medal in the mixed and women’s 4*400m relay. Initially the mixed 4*400m relay team on the silver medal but it was upgraded to gold after athletes from Bahrain were banned.
In the individual 400m event, Hima Das won the silver medal with a national record timing of 50.79. She was considered to be the biggest hope for India and was expected to dip sub 50 soon but unfortunately due to injuries had to quit the quarter-mile event and shifte focus to sprint.
Muhammad Anas Yahiya (3)
The Indian national record holder, Anas Yahiya, won three medals at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. He won one gold and two silver in the 400m category. Anas has the national record in his name (45.21) which he set at the 2019 Kladno Athletics meet in Kladno, Czech Republic. He won the gold Medal in the mixed 4*400m relay which was initially a silver but was later upgraded to gold.
He then won the silver medal in the individual 400m with a timing of 45.69 finishing just behind Abbas Abubakar of Bahrain (45.59).
Jaspal Rana (4)
Former Indian pistol shooter Jaspal Rana became the first Indian to win four medals in the single Asian Games. He won four medals (3 gold and 1 silver) at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. He won the first gold in men’s 25m standard pistol event with a score of 574. His second medal was also a gold in the 25m centre fire pistol with a score of 590.
Furthermore, Jaspal’s third gold was secured in the men’s 25m Centre fire pistol team event. He won the silver in men’s 25m standard pistol team event.

Esha Singh (4)
The 18-year-old who hails from Hyderabad, Telangana, has won four medals at the ongoing edition of Hangzhou Asian Games. She became the first Indian woman and second overall to win four medals in a single edition. Esha Singh won one gold and three silver. This is the best performance by any Indian woman so far in a single edition of the Asian Games.
She won her first medal in the 25m Pistol women’s team event where she won gold alongside Rhythm Sangwan and Manu Bhakar with a score of 1759. Esha then went on to win the silver medal in the individual 25m Pistol with a score of 34. The youngster had a poor start but recovered well to win the silver medal.
Her third medal was secured in the 10m Air Pistol team event where she alongside Palak and Divya won the silver medal with a score of 1731. In the final event, Esha won silver in the 10m Air Pistol individual category with a score of 239.7 behind compatriot Palak who won the competition with a Games record of 242.1.
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (4)
The most consistent rifle shooter so far Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar became the third Indian to win four medals in a single edition of the Asian Games. He won two gold, one silver and one bronze at the 2023 Asian Games. Aishwary’s first medal came was a gold in the 10m Air Rifle Team event where he alongside Rudrankksh and Divyansh secured the top spot with a world record score of 1893.7.
He then went on to win the 10m Air Rifle individual bronze medal with a score of 228.8 finishing behind two Chinese shooters. His third medal came in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Position team event where he alongside Swapnil and Akhil won the gold medal with a world record of 1769.
Furthermore, Aishwary went on to win the silver medal at the 50m Rifle 3 Position individual event where he scored 459.7
