India added five more medals on Day 4, led by Mirabai Chanu’s silver
The Indian contingent continued its medal-winning run at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, adding five more medals on Wednesday, September 23.
Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event, while India also secured bronze medals in the men’s and women’s skeet team events, men’s singles soft tennis and the men’s badminton team event.
India’s medal tally now stands at one gold, five silver and six bronze medals. The women’s cricket team remains India’s only gold medallist so far, while shooting continues to be one of the country’s biggest contributors.
India also assured another medal in wushu as Roshibina Devi defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas in the women’s 60kg Sanda semi-final to reach the gold-medal bout.

India had a busy day across several disciplines, with shooting, weightlifting, soft tennis, badminton and wushu producing the biggest moments.
Mirabai Chanu secured her maiden Asian Games medal by winning silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event.
Chanu, who had only an Asian Games medal missing from her glittering cabinet, lifted 87kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 198kg. North Korea’s Ri Song Gum won gold. Chanu had finished fourth at the 2022 Asian Games after suffering an injury during the competition.

Shooting produced a mixed day for India. Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh finished fourth in the women’s 10m air pistol team event after being tied with Vietnam on 1719 points.
Vietnam took bronze with 46 inner-10s compared to India’s 44. Bhaker then finished fifth in the individual final, while Esha and Suruchi failed to qualify. It was one of India’s major disappointments of the day.
India, however, added two bronze medals through the skeet team events. Anantjeet Naruka, Mairaj Khan and Bhavtegh Gill secured bronze in the men’s event, while Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan finished third in the women’s event.
In the individual events, Anantjeet and Raiza both finished fourth, Parinaaz finished eighth, while Mairaj, Bhavtegh and Maheshwari did not make the respective finals.

Jay Meena created history by becoming India’s first-ever Asian Games medallist in soft tennis. He defeated the Philippines’ Sherwin Nuguit in the quarter-final before losing to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka in the semi-final to settle for bronze.
The Indian men’s badminton team also added a bronze medal after reaching the semi-final. India had defeated Japan 3-0 in the quarter-finals on September 22 before losing to China 1-3 in the semis. The result gives India a second consecutive medal in the men’s team event after the silver at Hangzhou 2022.
Roshibina Devi was another major highlight of the day. The Indian defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas in the women’s 60kg Sanda semi-final to enter the gold-medal bout.
The victory assured Roshibina at least a silver medal and kept her in contention for her first Asian Games gold. She had previously won bronze at Jakarta 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2022.

The women’s cricket team won India’s only gold medal so far. Shooting has contributed seven medals, while the remaining medals have come from weightlifting, MMA, soft tennis and badminton.

India will have several medal opportunities on Day 5, with rowing providing multiple chances through Final A races across men’s and women’s events.
Indian crews will compete in events including the men’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, lightweight women’s events, women’s pair, men’s quadruple sculls and men’s four.
Roshibina Devi will take on China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the women’s 60kg Sanda gold-medal bout. After winning bronze at Jakarta 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2022, Roshibina will look to complete her Asian Games medal collection with a gold.
Shooting will also provide medal opportunities in the men’s 10m air pistol and mixed team skeet events. Kamaljeet, Aakash Bharadwaj and Kedarling Uchaganve will compete in the men’s 10m air pistol, while Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal will be among India’s competitors in mixed skeet.
Athletics will feature the women’s triple jump and women’s 10,000m finals, while the mixed 4x400m relay will have its final later in the day, subject to qualification.
Canoe sprint and swimming will also have medal events, with Indian athletes in contention subject to qualification, while artistic gymnastics will feature the women’s vault medal round.
