India climbed to fifth place in the medal tally after a stellar day
India enjoyed a stellar day on Friday (October 2), winning six gold medals, to make this India’s best single day at Asian Games 2026.
Sujeet Kalkal produced the standout performance, beating Olympic champion Kotaro Kiyooka in the men’s freestyle 65kg semi-final before producing an incredible comeback win against Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev in the final.

Boxing delivered three golds in a row as Lovlina Borgohain beat China’s Ziyi Bao 5-0 in the women’s 75kg final on her birthday becoming only the second Indian woman after Mary Kom to win Asian Games boxing gold.
This was before Parveen Hooda beat Taiwan’s Nien-chin Chen 3-2 to join the elite list and Ankush Panghal beat South Korea’s Minseong Kim 4-0 to complete the sweep.
The women’s hockey team beat defending champions and 2024 Olympic Games silver medalists China 1-0 in the final.
Archery added a gold and two silvers. The women’s recurve team came back from 1-3 down to beat the otherwise formidable South Korea 5-3.
Nethra Kumaran added a bronze in sailing’s women’s dinghy, while the men’s sepaktakraw team won bronze after a semi-final loss to Japan.
In wrestling, Sujeet’s gold was India’s lone high point as Dipanshi Phogat, Rajat Ruhal and Priya Malik all lost their pre-quarterfinals or quarter-finals.
The women’s golf team sat second after round three, led by Pranavi Sharath in first place individually, while the men’s team are currently sixth.

On the 13th day of the Aichi-Nagoya Games, China’s Wu Yu, Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-ting, and Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang won gold in women’s boxing.
Lin Yu-ting secured the women’s 60kg title, while China’s Bao Ziyi and Chinese Taipei’s Nien-chin Chen finished with silver medals in their respective divisions.
In the men’s boxing events, Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi and Uzbekistan’s Abdulmalik Khalokov claimed the men’s 55kg and 60kg titles, respectively, while Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan and Aibek Oralbay, along with Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev, also secured men’s boxing gold.

Japan’s Yuuki Tanaka and China’s Chen Lin won the men’s and women’s kayak cross finals, respectively. China’s Quan Xin and Hu Zhaoshan joined Tanaka on the men’s podium, while Chinese Taipei’s Chang Chu-han and China’s Xu Linxi took the other women’s medals.
In cycling, China’s Yuan Liying won the women’s sprint, with Japan’s Mina Sato taking silver. Japan claimed the men’s Madison title, ahead of China and Uzbekistan, while Malaysia’s Mohd Azizulhasni Awang won the men’s keirin.
Japan’s Riku Okada, Mizuki Sugimura, and Ryotaro Masuchi won the men’s 90kg, women’s 78kg, and men’s 100kg judo titles, respectively.
Uzbekistan’s Turoboyev Muzzafarbek secured the men’s +100kg gold, while China’s Niu Xiran won the women’s +78kg title.

In wrestling, Japan’s Yuka Kagami won the women’s 76kg final. In taekwondo, China’s Jingyue Ma, Kazakhstan’s Tamirlan Tleules, Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Jaysunov, and Iran’s Saghar Moradi all claimed gold medals in their respective categories.
In football, Japan and North Korea faced off in the highly anticipated women’s final, while South Korea defeated China 1–0 to take the bronze medal. South Korea also claimed the League of Legends gold medal after beating Chinese Taipei in esports.
In tennis, China’s Wang Xiyu won the women’s singles title, while Japan’s Yusuke Kushara and Shunsuke Nagawa secured the men’s doubles gold.
Finally, Thailand’s Taravadee Naraphornrapat and Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsathaworn won the women’s beach volleyball final.
China continued its dominance at the top of the medal standings, crossing the 160-gold mark and taking its overall tally to 316 medals. Japan remained second with 239 medals while Republic of Korea made some gains after a good day in archery.
Uzbekistan retained fourth place with 65 medals, thanks to solid showings in boxing and wrestling.
