Since the 1986 edition at Seoul, India have not won a medal in the men's team event but have a great chance of breaking the jinx this time as they head into the tournament as Thomas Cup champions, an epic feat which they achieved in May 2022. The Indian men’s team will look to end a 37-year-long medal drought in the team event, with India’s last medal coming in the 1986 Asian Games.
The Indian men’s team will be led by HS Prannoy, the recently crowned BWF World championships bronze medalist, and will have high hopes for success in Hangzhou. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team, led by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, features a lineup that includes Ashmitha Chaliha, Anupama Upadhyaya, Malvika Bansod, and doubles pairs Gayatri Gopichand Pullela/Treesa Jolly and Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto.
In 2014, India secured a bronze medal in the women’s team event, and this youthful Indian squad will be eager to surprise other teams when they commence their campaign on September 28 in the elimination round.
