India won a bronze medal in the previous edition of the tournament.

The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025 will commence on February 11 and end on 16th February. The tournament, which will also act as a qualifier for the Sudirman Cup 2025, will take place at the Conson Gymnasium, in Qingdao, China. The four semifinalists will earn automatic qualification to the Sudirman Cup.

Team India created history in the last edition by winning their first medal in the tournament. In the 2023 edition, which took place in Dubai, India topped their group by winning each of their three matches against Kazakhstan, UAE and Malaysia respectively. India then faced Hong Kong in the quarterfinals and had to fight back from 0-2 down to win 3-2 and confirm their first-ever medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships.

They eventually went down to champions China in the semis, losing 2-3 to bow out.

In the 2019 edition, India faced a group stage exit after losing to Chinese Taipei and Singapore (2-3). In 2017 India lost in the quarterfinals to Thailand, despite leading 2-0 at one stage.

This time just like the 2023 edition, India have sent a full-fledged contingent and will eye a second consecutive medal. However, they will have to do it without star shuttler PV Sindhu, who has withdrawn from the tournament due to a hamstring issue. In her absence, Malvika Bansod will be India’s lone designated women’s singles player.

India, led by Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty pair will start their campaign against Macau on February 12.

Format

Each team will play against the other in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Knockouts. The format for the tie is as follows:

Each team will play five matches. The tie will consist of one match in each discipline (men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles). The team winning three matches will win the tie. In the group stage, all five matches will be played irrespective of the result. In the knockout stage, the tie will be finished when any team wins the three matches.
