Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 4 Results: Sharmila Dhankar wins historic gold; Sarvesh, Ajaya, Gyaneshwari bag silver in India's most successful day

India won six medals on July 27, taking its total tally to 10 medals
The Indian contingent produced stellar results across sports on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. The addition of one gold medal, three silver medals, and two bronze medals swells the nation’s total tally into double digits.
In athletics, Sharmila and Shilpa Shyla clinched gold and bronze, respectively, in the women’s shot put F57 event. Sarvesh Kushare then pocketed the silver medal in men’s high jump.

The spotless run continued in weightlifting as the Indian athletes participating in the three different events on Monday all finished on the podium. Gyaneshwari Yadav and Valluri Ajaya Babu won silver medals, while Bindyarani Devi took home bronze.
The start of track and field brought India its second gold medal, with Sharmila clinching the top spot in the women’s shot put F57 final.
Commendably, all of her attempts surpassed 9m, with her attempt of 9.81m on the third throw being the highest of the night.
The event also provided the nation’s first double podium finish, as Shilpa Shyla clinched the bronze medal with 7.26m throw.
For her, too, her third attempt was the clincher—one of her two throws above 7m. Gold medal favourite Eucharia Iyaizi shockingly left the event with no mark.
In men’s high jump, Sarvesh Kushare clinched the silver medal, with his highest jump measuring 2.25m. After spotlessly scaling all heights up to the 2.25m mark, it took him all three attempts to clear this height. He eventually failed to achieve 2.28m.
Jamaican Romaine Beckford clinched the gold medal with a height of 2.25m, but he reached that height on his first attempt. Aadarsh Ram Jothi Shankar finished fifth with 2.15m, while Birmingham Games bronze medallist Tejaswin Shankar failed to make a mark, seemingly looking injured.

In other track-and-field medal events, Indian athletes failed to make an impact. In the men’s 100m T38 final, Rakeshbhai Bhatt and Shreyansh Trivedi finished fifth and sixth, respectively. In the men’s 110m hurdles event, Tejas Shirse finished at the bottom among eight participants.
The weightlifters continued to deliver, with the addition of three more medals to the tally. Gyaneshwari Yadav put on a sensational showing in the women’s 53kg category, achieving success in all six of her attempts to clinch the silver medal.
Her tally of 199kg (88 kg + 111 kg) was just 7kg behind that of Nigerian Onome Didih, who surpassed the Games record in both sections.
Later at night, in the men’s 79 kg event, Valluri Ajaya Babu suffered heartbreak and eventually settled for a silver medal.
After breaking the game’s record in the Snatch section with a lift of 149kg (2kg more than eventual gold medallist Erry Hidayat Muhammad), he lifted 181 kg on his final chance in clean and jerk. However, his Malaysian opponent managed to lift 184kg to edge past Babu right at the end.
Last edition’s silver medallist Bindyarani Devi clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 58 kg final. While Eliza Pratt matched her effort of 87kg in the Snatch segment, the Indian successfully lifted 112kg on her second attempt in Clean-and-Jerk, which eventually helped her finish 3kg clear of her English opponent.
Nigerian Rafiatu Folashade shattered the Games Record in both sections (total 229 kg), while Canadian Ann Sophie Taschereau clinched the silver medal.
Swimming failed to add to the medal tally. Aryan Nehra (7th, men’s 800m freestyle), Swatik Patel (5th, men’s 100m backstroke SB9), and Sajan Prakash (8th, men’s 200m butterfly) all left more to be desired. In artistic gymnastics, Protistha Samanta finished seventh out of eight participants in the women’s vault Final, with a score of 12.883.
