Bindyarani Devi’s medal-winning performance

The 27-year-old started steadily with an 83 kg lift in snatch, putting her just behind Nigeria’s Lawal, who had managed a 95 kg lift. The Indian then progressively managed lifts of 85 kg and 87 kg, positioning herself as a medal contender.
However, Lawal produced lifts of 100 kg and 103 kg, creating a new Commonwealth record in snatch with her third and final attempt. Canada’s Taschereau produced a 94 kg lift in her third attempt in snatch.
Locked in a three-way battle with Lawal and Taschereau, Bindyarani opened the clean and jerk round with a successful lift of 110 kg. However, the jury flagged her effort immediately due to a wobble in her elbows, nullifying her effort.
