Mitchell Marsh suffered from a hamstring injury during IPL 2024.

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh’s bowling in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is not confirmed yet, said Australia coach Andrew McDonald. Marsh recently suffered a hamstring injury during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and returned home mid-tournament for treatment.

He recovered in time for the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, which featured two warm-up games. While Australia easily won their first warm-up game against Namibia, they dropped their second warm-up game to the West Indies on Thursday. Mitchell Marsh played in both matches and scored 22 runs.

Marsh had revealed that he was improving when the team was announced, and he was part of the side that faced West Indies in the warm-up fixture, being dismissed for four runs. Following the game, head coach McDonald stated that the warm-up games were all about determining Marsh’s fitness level.

Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, discussed Mitchell Marsh’s comeback. The head coach responded positively to the injury report, claiming that the warm-up games were simply a chance to see how his body was handling the pressure after a month off.

After viewing Mitchell Marsh’s fielding performance against Namibia, Andrew McDonald felt the former was gaining confidence. McDonald noted that Marsh moved much more freely and easily. He also voiced confidence that Marsh will appear in Australia’s World Cup opener.

“For Mitch, (the warm-up games) was about ticking off where his body was at. He fielded more overs tonight, he was able to move more freely, so he’s building a little bit of confidence there. It looks as though he’s all set for the first game. The second part is just when the bowling comes back online … it won’t be the first game,” McDonald said after the match.

McDonald acknowledged that the players are adjusting well to each other and are simply waiting to decide their playing XIs for the games. The Australian head coach is certain that he has plenty of options to try.
