RCB are currently placed fifth in IPL 2023 points table with 4 wins in 8 matches.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are struggling in the middle of the IPL 2023 points table at the fifth spot with 4 wins from 8 games and have 8 points to their name. They will be facing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next match on May 1st and it is expected that Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood will make his much-awaited appearance in the tournament.

Josh Hazlewood, who has a history of ailments, hasn't participated in any type of cricket since tearing his Achilles tendon in the SCG Test in January. But he's determined to get in shape for the six tests that will follow in the next eight weeks, starting on June 7 with the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval.

Hazlewood had joined the RCB camp earlier this month and the Cricket Australia medical staff have been closely monitoring his recovery. If he successfully completes his final training session before the Lucknow match, he is likely to be given the green light to play.

Josh Hazlewood looks to consolidate his place for Ashes via the IPL route

Initially, Josh Hazlewood was chosen for the four-Test tour of India. However, he had to withdraw from the series midway because he was unable to overcome his persistent Achilles problem. George Bailey, the CA head selector had indicated that Hazlewood will be prepping for the Ashes 2023 via the IPL route.

“He’s reasonably experienced, and he’s very professional so he knows exactly what and where he’ll need to be to be at his best for the Ashes. We’re in constant communication, as we are with all of the players around that, so he’ll be building and in some ways that smaller workload through four-over bursts in the IPL might be a nice build for him," said Bailey.

As he prepares for his return, Hazlewood will begin his attempt to demonstrate his physical readiness for Australia’s upcoming six-Test tour of England, which includes the World Test Championship Final and the Ashes.
