James Anderson went past Anil Kumble’s unwanted record in test cricket.

England’s premium fast bowler James Anderson has created an unwanted record in test cricket, where he surpassed legendary Indian cricketer Anil Kumble in the list of most runs conceded by a bowler in test cricket history. The veteran pacer achieved this unwanted milestone during the third match between India and England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.

Before this third test match against India in the ongoing five-match series, former Indian cricketer and leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who played 132 test matches, held the unwanted record of conceding the most runs in the longest format of the game (18,355). Anderson has now overtaken Kumble and now holds the unwanted record of conceding the most runs in test cricket history.

In 185 test matches, James Anderson now has conceded 18,371 runs, which is the most by any test bowler. Legendary off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is third on the list, having given up 18180 runs in 133 test matches during his glorious test career for Sri Lanka. Australian legend Shane Warne is at fourth place with 17,995 runs from 145 test games.

Former England right-arm quick speedster Stuart Broad is also on the list. In 167 test matches, Broad gave away 16719 runs during his test career. Currently, the English pacer is placed in fifth place.

3. Muttiah Muralitharan – 18180 runs

4. Shane Warne – 17995 runs

5. Stuart Broad – 16719 runs

Meanwhile, Anderson, who currently has 696 wickets, is just four short of joining the historic list of taking 700 test wickets in international cricket. The veteran English pacer is the third-highest wicket-taker in test cricket after Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708).

The 41-year-old English pacer will look to achieved this historic feat during the ongoing five-match test series between India and England.
