Pakistan signs hosting rights agreement with ICC for Champions Trophy 2025
Pakistan will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February-March window of 2025.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be officially played in Pakistan as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed the hosting agreement with the International Cricket Council (ICC). PCB chief Zaka Ashraf signing the hosting agreement is a step forward to ensure the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament is set to be played in Pakistan. The last edition of the Champions Trophy was played in England in 2017 and the tournament will be played again after a break of 8 years.
The Pakistan Cricket Board in a press release stated, “PCB management committee chairman Mr Zaka Ashraf was joined by ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall in the signing of the hosting rights to Pakistan at the ICC headquarters.” As soon as the official documents were signed, the PCB has started its preparations for the upcoming big ICC event in Pakistan. This tournament will be a huge step in Pakistan cricket as they will host a multinational ICC event after a long time.
The PCB has informed the caretaker government in the country about the upcoming event and urged the government to provide foolproof security to visiting sides in the multinational ICC event. Caretaker Prime-minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar also held a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf and assured the cooperation in the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament is likely to be played in February and March.
Security threat in Champions Trophy 2025
According to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, there is a security threat prevailing in the big ICC event and the International Cricket Council will get it verified by multiple international security organisations. They will also seek PCB for reports on security threats. Very soon an elected government will be formed in Pakistan as the election process will be held early in the next year and then the PCB will be working in coordination with the elected government.
Most likely, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not be sending the Indian side to Pakistan due to the prevailing political reasons as well as a big security threat to team India. They also didn’t travel to Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023, but took part in the tournament as it was played in a hybrid model. Sri Lanka was chosen as co-host of the big multinational ACC event that took place in September this year. India won the championship after defeating Sri Lanka in the final played in Colombo.
