Watch: Sachin Tendulkar announces best fielder medal winner after IND vs SL match in Mumbai

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar announced the best fielder medal winner after IND vs SL match.
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was the special guest who announced the winner of the best fielder medal in Indian team after they routed Sri Lanka in their latest ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match in Mumbai.
Sri Lanka put India to bat first, and they scored 357/8 in 50 overs. Men in blue’s top-scorers were Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88), and Shreyas Iyer (82). For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka stood out with bowling figures of 5/80.
In response, in what seemed to be a replay of Asia Cup 2023 final, Mohammed Shami (5/18) and Mohammed Siraj (3/16) destroyed Sri Lankan batting line-up. Sri Lanka were defeated by 302 runs after being bowled out for 55 runs.
After the match, Indian team fielding coach T. Dilip gave a speech highlighting the brilliant fielding by the side in Sri Lanka match. He said that the team’s performance on the field against Sri Lanka was nothing short of extraordinary. Dilip called Shreyas Iyer the ‘silent sniper’ since he is not the loudest on the field, but when it comes to throwing and catching, he is just out there.
However, Dilip was not the one to reveal the winner of the best fielder medal. There have been brilliant ways to announce this, and this time, a legend of Indian cricket was asked to do the honors.
“I simply loved the brand of cricket that you have played so far, says” Sachin Tendulkar says as he announces winner of best fielder medal.
Team India invited Sachin Tendulkar to announce the winner. Before revealing the name, Sachin Tendulkar said that the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award reminds him of the 2003 World Cup, when they used to sign a chart where it was written, ‘I can, we can.’
He said: “Rohit met me the other day and spoke to me about the fielding medal, the best fielders medal. It took me back to the 2003 World Cup, 20 years ago when we were playing South Africa. We had one chart before the tournament started ‘I can, we can’. Each and every player had to sign that chart before going. It was all about commitment and I will give my 100% for the country and for the team and that is exactly what the current team is doing by giving fielding medals. It is to me a reflection of your commitment, to doing something for your colleague, for your team and for the country. I simply loved the brand of cricket that you have played so far. It is been a joy to watch. Awesome guys continue this form.”
The winner of the medal was Shreyas Iyer, who made a brilliant catch of Sadeera Samarawickrama in the slips.
