Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury while taking Alex Carey’s catch in Sydney ODI.
Shreyas Iyer, India‘s star batter, has offered an update on his recovery after fracturing his lower rib cage while attempting to catch during the third One-Day International against Australia in Sydney.
During the third ODI, Iyer produced a superb diving catch while running from backward point to dismiss the dangerous Alex Carey off a Harshit Rana delivery.
When he dived, he landed awkwardly on his elbows and ribs, mainly on the left side. After making the hold, he was in great pain, gripping his ribs while medical staff guided him back to the pavilion.
On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an update regarding Iyer’s injury. According to a BCCI statement, a second scan on October 28 confirmed significant improvement in Shreyas’ fitness, and he is on his way back.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation.
“A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress,” the BCCI statement read.
The BCCI Medical Team, in conjunction with professionals in Sydney and India, will continue to track his progress.

As per reports, Shreyas Iyer underwent an alternate medical procedure to avoid surgery to stop the internal bleeding after rupturing his spleen. His condition is now stable, and early this week, the Sydney hospital took him out of the intensive care unit, moving him into the general ward.
Iyer shared a post on his social media, saying he is making steady progress and thanking fans for their amazing support.
“I’m currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received- it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer posted on X.
