Top 5 moments Stuart Broad will be remembered for

On Saturday, 29th July 2023, Stuart Broad announced he will retire after the fifth Ashes 2023 test against Australia.

Stuart Broad has put the curtain on his superb international career and decided to retire from international cricket. The 37-year-old made his test debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in December 2007. He recently became only the fifth bowler to take 600 wickets in the longest format after Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (680), and Anil Kumble (619). Broad is also only the second pacer to reach this rare feat after his fellow countryman, James Anderson.

The 37-year-old has played 167 tests (including the ongoing fifth Ashes test) so far and has taken 602 wickets. In ODIs, he has taken 178 wickets in 121 games, while in 56 T20Is, he has taken 65 wickets. He has also captained England in white-ball cricket. However, there have been some incredible and notable moments during his career that caught the attention of the world. Here we will talk about the top five most-talked-about moments in Stuart Broad's career.

Here are the top five most talked-about moments in Stuart Broad's career

Stuart Broad was part of the English team that played in the 2007 T20 World Cup. In a game against India, he suffered what could be the most horrible performance for a bowler. Yuvraj Singh smashed him for six consecutive sixes to become the first batter in a T20I to do so.

Broad ended up giving up 60/0 in four overs. India won that game by 18 runs. But it was an unforgettable night for a 21-year-old pacer. But that moment helped Broad become a more competitive cricketer.

Stuart Broad has bowled many incredible spells in his test career. But his best came against arch-rivals Australia in 2015 in Nottingham. He dismantled the Australian top order and picked up 8/15 to register his career best figures in test cricket.

He took all these wickets in just 9.3 overs and helped his team retain the Ashes. During his spell, he also completed 300 test wickets. England won that game by an innings and 78 runs.

Broken nose and black eyes after being hit by Varun Aaron on face at Old Trafford in 2014:

Not just with his bowling, Stuart Broad has changed the game with his handy batting ability as well. But there was one moment in his career when he found it hard to face Indian pacer Varun Aaron. It was a test in Manchester in 2014. One of Aaron's bouncers broke Broad's nose.

Later, he admitted that he had nightmares after getting hit by a bouncer by Aaron on the face, which haunted him for a long time. That forced him to undergo surgery. In an interview, he said, "I have had time when I have felt the ball just about to hit my face in the middle of the night. It has been quite tough."

Broad is the only international bowler to have conceded 35 or more runs in an over twice in his career. The second occasion came during the fifth and final rescheduled test between India and England in Edgbaston in 2022.

Bumrah collected a boundary on a drop catch on the first ball. Then, Broad bowled a bouncer, which went for five wides. The next ball was a no-ball, which went for a six. Broad conceded 16 runs on a single delivery. After that, Bumrah hit him for one six and three fours on the best four balls. Broad bowled a Yorker on the last ball, which was a single, and the over went for 35 runs, becoming the most expensive over in the Test Cricket.

"Stop moving the Robot" Stuart Broad in 2022 in Hobart Test:

Broadcasters do everything to cover all the basics of the game and give the fans something to enjoy from every angle, which is a very hard thing to do. But sometimes it doesn't go well. One such instance was recorded during the 2021/22 Ashes test in Hobart.

It was the second day of the final test of Ashes 2022 in Hobart, when Broad was bowling to Mitchell Starc. The bowler was distracted by the camera moving behind the batter near the boundary line and stopped during his bowling run-up and shouted, "Stop moving the Robot!" That was one of the rarest occasions of a bowler pulling out of the run-up due to camera positioning.
