Virat Kohli rises up as ICC announces latest ODI batsmen rankings

Virat Kohli top-scored in the recently concluded CWC 2023 with 765 runs in 11 innings.
India batter Virat Kohli saw a massive rise in the latest update of the ICC ODI batting rankings after the completion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Kohli famously held the No.1 ranking for a total of 1258 consecutive days during a reign of almost four years between 2017 and 2021.
Virat Kohli finished as the top run-getter in the tournament with 765 runs with 3 centuries and 6 fifties to his name. He also completed 50 centuries in the format going past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI tons.
Thanks to this performance, Kohli jumped one place to third on the latest rankings and within just 35 rating points of teammate Shubman Gill. Gill (826 rating points) maintains a slim lead at the top of the batter rankings.
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (824 rating points) remains second, but Kohli (791) and India skipper Rohit Sharma (up one spot to fourth with 769 rating points) are now within striking distance following strong performances during the World Cup.
Rohit Sharma smashed 597 runs as the India duo finished the tournament as the two leading run scorers.

Travis Head and Josh Hazelwood make big jumps in ICC ODI rankings after Australia’s ODI World Cup triumph
Travis Head is the biggest draw on the new ODI batter rankings, having jumped 28 places to 15th overall after his magnificent century and Player of the Match performance in the World Cup final.
Experienced seamer Josh Hazlewood has moved up four places to second overall, while fellow quick Mitchell Starc moved up eight places to 12th and skipper Pat Cummins moved up seven places to 27th. Keshav Maharaj of South Africa continues to lead the current ODI bowling rankings.

India pair Mohammed Siraj (third) and Jasprit Bumrah (fourth) remain firmly in the top 10 of the ICC bowling rankings. Kuldeep Yadav dropped one spot to sixth, while Mohmmed Shami has dropped down to 10th spot.
