Why Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo is one to watchout for in 2023-24 season?
The French midfielder is a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for next season
Kobbie Mainoo has been with the Manchester United first team since before the start of the 2022-2023 season. The 18-year-old Englishman was handed his debut with the senior team in January 2022, he made his Premier League debut against Leicester a few weeks later and looked solid. The young midfielder didn’t feature late in the season due to an injury scare.
However, Mainoo has featured in all of Man United’s pre-season fixtures so far. He has been impressive in his position, especially against Arsenal in New York, where he assisted Bruno Fernandes’s opening goal.
Kobbie Mainoo is looked upon as a future investment. The Manchester United players and staff have spoken highly of the youngster. With newly appointed captain Bruno Fernandes speaking of the youngster highly after the friendly against Arsenal.
“Honestly, Kobbie is a great player, he shows great resilience. He’s always ready to work. He’s capabilities are high, and everyone can see his talent. He’s good on the ball, strong, he can defend and attack.”

Speaking about his technical abilities, Bruno Fernandes said:
“You see how he attacked the space for my goal. He’s still pretty young, but we see a bright future for him and hopefully he will get more minutes, more time, and he will be a great player for us.”
Where can Kobbie Mainoo feature in the Man United midfield?
Mainoo is a midfielder who can play anywhere in the midfield three. The Man United management have employed him in various positions to enhance his versatility.
Moreover, it has been reported that Erik ten Hag has informed the young midfielder that he will not be loaned out this summer and will continue to be with the senior team. It seems that the manager wants the youngster to become even more comfortable with the senior team environment.
With the interest of the manager in the youngster, and the players showing trust in him, it is possible that Kobbie Mainoo may become a starter in the coming season.
