Undoubtedly, the following players made Khel Now’s Team of the Week for Round 9 of the ISL 2023-24:
Formation: 4-4-2
GK – Gurmeet Singh (Hyderabad FC)
Gurmeet Singh was a major reason why Hyderabad FC were able to avoid defeat in Guwahati against NorthEast United. The custodian made five saves and three clearances to help the Nizams record a 1-1 draw against the Highlanders.
RB – PC Laldinpuia (Jamshedpur FC)
Jamshedpur FC salvaged a point by drawing their home game against Chennaiyin FC by a 2-2 scoreline. The Men of Steel were given a brilliant platform to register a comeback, thanks to Laldinpuia’s goal right on the brink of half time.
CB – Suresh Meitei (Punjab FC)
Suresh Meitei delivered an exceptional performance against East Bengal FC. Thanks to his marvellous display where he made seven clearances, the newly promoted Punjab FC managed to keep a clean-sheet and secure a hard-fought point.
CB – Rahul Bheke (Mumbai City FC)
Rahul Bheke was calm and composed against a Bengaluru FC side that did not help itself in attack. Mumbai City FC went on to win the game by a 4-0 score and Bheke played a key role in keeping the clean-sheet for the Islanders against the mediocre Blues.
LB – Akash Mishra (Mumbai City FC)
Akash Mishra scored a brilliant long-range goal against Bengaluru FC in Mumbai City FC’s 4-0 win. The left-back also helped the side keep a clean-sheet in a praiseworthy overall performance. His work ethic got a lot of praise from the fans.
CM – Ahmed Jahouh (Odisha FC)
Ahmed Jahouh emerged as the best player from Odisha FC’s 2-2 draw with Mohun Bagan. The midfielder scored both of his side’s goals, making the biggest impact before leaving the pitch early owing to an injury.
CM – Nikhil Prabhu (Punjab FC)
Nikhil Prabhu has been a consistent performer in the ISL 2023-24 for Punjab FC. He has filled in as a defender too, whenever the situation has required him to do so. He made five interceptions and won seven duels to keep Punjab FC in the game and not let East Bengal FC dominate the midfield.
RW – Greg Stewart (Mumbai City FC)
Greg Stewart showcased his exquisite technique and quality in the final third Mumbai City FC’s win over Bengaluru FC. He provided the assist for Nasser El Khayati’s goal, courtesy of a delicious cutback from the right flank. The attacker also won nine out of his 10 attempted ground duels during the match.
LW – Jithin MS (NorthEast United)
Jithin MS worked his socks off for NorthEast United in the 1-1 draw against Hyderabad FC on Sunday. While he did not record a goal contribution, his industrious performance was crucial in helping the Highlanders keep up the pressure. The winger won eight ground duels, delivered three crosses and completed 86% of his passes.
ST – Armando Sadiku (Mohun Bagan)
Armando Sadiku was crucial for Mohun Bagan and saved them from losing their first ISL 2023-24 game. The striker scored a sensational brace in the second half to secure a draw, including a late equaliser. His passion and willingness won a lot of fans over.
