Will Reece James return from injury before Euro 2024?
Reece James was named Chelsea captain this season
Chelsea captain Reece James is dealing with a hamstring issue and the full-back had surgery yesterday for the recurring injury.
Reece James started in the first Premier League game against Liverpool. He was substituted in the 75th minute following an injury. He returned to action after two months against Burnley.
The full-back has only made eight appearances for the Blues this season, with seven coming in the Premier League and one in the EFL Cup.
James was substituted after the 26th minute against Everton two weeks ago. The 24-year-old said he had experienced “significantly more hate and negativity” since his latest injury.
“Since this injury I’ve had a good amount of support but significantly more hate and negativity. Believe me I don’t wanna be injured, I’m happiest when I’m playing football,” James added.
“Thanks to the understanding people that support me despite the highs or the lows, it goes a long way. Stay well, Reece.”

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino did not give a specific time frame for James’ return during a media conference on Friday to preview Sunday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“We don’t know for sure – several weeks for sure,” Pochettino said. “I don’t know if it is months but the most important thing is to see him here again with us and then assess him day-by-day. “I hope less [than four months]. Hope, hope, hope. That is my wish for the new year. We cannot say because [it will depend how his body is going to react and heal the damage.”
Despite all these problems, there are some positive signals for Gareth Southgate and the England national team. His surgeon gave an update after James’ recent injury.
Reece James’ surgeon Lasse Lempainen: “I am very convinced that Reece will be in top shape before Euro 2024”, according to Tele Football.
“Chelsea will decide on how long he takes, but more likely we are talking about three to four months”.
