Mason Greenwood feels Man United should have supported his case

Even though Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stated that a new decision regarding Mason Greenwood’s future will be made, Greenwood is “reluctant” about going back to Manchester United.

Ratcliffe appears to be allowing the attacker to maybe restart his career at Old Trafford by stating that the team would make a new decision regarding Greenwood after his half takeover. According to The Athletic, Greenwood is “reluctant” to play for the Red Devils once more and has “no great desire” to do so. According to reports, the 22-year-old feels that United “could have supported him better” regarding his legal matter and that he will be under “greater pressure and scrutiny” if he plays in the Premier League again.

Greenwood is now spending the entire season on loan with Getafe, where in 25 appearances, he has five assists and seven goals. Getafe has stated that although they might not have the money to finalise a deal, they would like to hang onto the winger.

Greenwood might, however, choose to remain in Spain. According to reports, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, two of La Liga’s biggest teams, are both after the attacker. Angel Torres, the president of Getafe, even asserted that Greenwood “would suit” in Barcelona.

When The Athletic questioned Ratcliffe about Greenwood following the Premier League’s approval of his 25 percent ownership in United:

“He’s a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football. So the answer is yes, we have to make decisions. There is no decision that’s been made. The process will be: understand the facts not the hype and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values which is basically is he a good guy or not, and answer could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it.”

Although The Athletic notes that Ratcliffe is aware that “fans would require an explanation” if he were to rejoin the team, he will take a “fresh” look at the Greenwood predicament. The newly acquired owner is also keen to prevent a recurrence of last summer, when the team abruptly changed its mind and opted to fire Greenwood in response to criticism from supporters. In February 2023, Greenwood experienced the dismissal of criminal charges related to attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage.
