The Liverpool boss had words of praise and goodwill when asked about Phil Coutinho.
Speaking to Bundesliga.com, Klopp likened the winger’s traits to that of former Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero saying “I haven’t seen a player coming in off the left and striking the ball with such regularity and precision from those kinds of positions since Del Piero.”
Despite his time at Barcelona, the Reds boss believes Bayern have made good business on signing the Brazilian and also stated that the winger may find it easier to adjust.
He stated, “Bayern needed him, and Bayern wanted him. If they can integrate him and get the very best out of him, the Bundesliga will have a top player on its hands.”
The former Liverpool and Barcelona winger joins Bayern initially on loan with a permanent deal worth €90m which if triggered would make Coutinho Bayern’s most expensive transfer ever breaking the record currently held by another new signing Lucas Hernandez who joined from Atletico Madrid for a fee of €89m.
He was signed by the Bavarians on the back of a disappointing home draw against Hertha Berlin and his addition is sure to boost Bayern’s attacking options for the season as they compete against perennial challengers Borussia Dortmund for their 30th Bundesliga title for which they will be looking up to Phil and other squad members to continue their form from last season’s domestic double success.
Bayern‘s upcoming fixture is against Schalke in an entertaining Bundesliga clash at Gelsenkirchen on Saturday night where Coutinho is expected to make his debut.
