Calangute Association held Salgaocar Football Club to a goaless draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. With both teams struggling in attack in the first 20 minutes, the match was restricted to midfield play. Salgaocar players were struggling to combine with each other, while the Calangute side were lacking in finishing. The first attack came from Calangute side when Sunny Fernandes collected a ball from Terence Lobo before crossing it into the danger zone but striker Runall Shirodkar failed to connect it. In the final five minutes of the first half, Calangute keeper Jason D’Mello came up with brilliant saves, first to block Aslon Oliviera in a one-on-one situation and later made a diving save to restrict Mackroy Peixote from scoring The second half again started with midfield play from both the sides. However in the last 15 minutes the port side were showing more potential in attack as Calangute conceded 5 corners in 10 minutes. But the Calangute shot-stopper did an excellent job between the sticks to deny Salgaocar from scoring. Salgaocar midfielder Mackroy Peixoto made a solo run into the Calangute box but the keeper Jason stood tall to deny his effort. Minutes later Brian Mascarenhas' curling corner was brilliantly fisted away by the Calangute custodian. Calangute coach Valentine Ezeugo introduced Sachin Gawas and Agnelo Colaco in the final quarter to boost their side in attack but the duo made no difference to the scoreboard. With today’s draw Salgaocar stands 3rd with 12 points from 6 matches played, while Calangute Association will climb one place to 7th position in the league table with 9 points from 7 outings.
