The 58-year-old Scottish manager was fuming after Chennaiyin FC’s 3-1 loss to the Tuskers.

Indian Super League (ISL) club Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle expressed frustration following his side’s recent loss against Kerala Blasters FC. The Scottish head coach was not happy about a controversial decision from the game which saw striker Wilmar Jordán Gil sent off early in the game.

Immediately following full-time, Coyle was asked about his thoughts on his side’s loss by ex-Indian striker Robin Singh. Singh, who is part of ISL’s commentary team, regularly interviews both head coaches following the game and it was following the game that he drew the ire of the Scotsman.

Owen Coyle called out Robin Singh post-game

While sharing his thoughts about the game, Coyle repeatedly questioned the former Indian striker about his thoughts on Jordán Gil’s red card in the 37th minute, which he deemed unfair. The heated response was unprovoked as Singh only wanted to gather Coyle’s tactical Outlook from the game.

The fiery Scotsman initially called out Singh for sitting on the fence about the incident from the game. Describing Singh as a ‘man in football’, Coyle desperately wanted the commentator to give his opinion about the awarding of the red card.

Was Jordán Gil’s red card the right decision?

While Singh eventually did concede the awarding of the red card was fair, Coyle called him out for giving out opinions while not sharing his true thoughts about the red card. Describing the incident as a ‘travesty’, he felt the game was out of his team’s reach following the red card incident.

While blasting Robin Singh post-game, Coyle ended the conversation stating, “You give an opinion on everything else. But you can’t give an opinion on that? I’m really disappointed with you. Your answer tells me that there was no red card but you are reluctant to say that.”

A tough night for Coyle and his men

The Scotsman would be even more flummoxed by the referee’s decision as his side now sit nine points adrift of the top-six playoffs spots. With 18 points in 19 games, Coyle and his men have to win virtually all of their remaining games for a shot at the ISL playoffs.

While his post-game comments have not garnered support, his actions showcase a coach under pressure to deliver results. As the season comes to a close after matchweek 26, Coyle will be hoping that his men have a shot to give a fair representation of their credentials after the conclusion of the regular season.
