Indian football team drops three places in latest FIFA men's rankings
The Blue Tigresses have also dropped a spot in the women’s rankings.
The Indian football team have dropped to 124 in the latest FIFA men’s rankings released on Thursday, June 20, 2024, making it their worst ranking since 2017. The disastrous revelation comes after an excruciating international window, where the Indian team picked up a solitary point out of a possible six.
The Indian football team first drew against Kuwait at home before eventually losing to Qatar, to miss out on a spot in the third round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The poor spree of performances by the Indian football team has seen them drop nearly seven points in the FIFA rankings, thus falling down three spots. Their total points tally currently stands at 1139.39. Despite the fall in rankings, India still hold the 22nd spot in the Asian Football Confederation.
Grim situation for Indian football team
In such desperate times for the Indian football team, another excruciating news struck them, as it was revealed a few days ago that India’s head coach had been sacked. This decision came following a crucial meeting attended by technical committee head IM Vijayan and member Climax Lawrence, both of whom are esteemed former internationals.
The main argument behind the bold move by the AIFF was regarding Stimac’s failure to take the national team to the third round of qualifiers and a series of poor performances.
In reply, the Croatian labeled his dismissal ‘unilateral’ and warned the All India Football Federation of legal action. Stimac also criticized AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey and accused him of repeatedly breaching their contract.
All in all, the situation at the helm doesn’t seem to be the most favourable at the moment. Whatever happens in the feud between the AIFF and Igor Stimac is secondary. What AIFF now needs to focus on is to find a competent replacement for Stimac.
FIFA Women’s Rankings
The Indian women’s football team have seen a one-spot drop in the latest FIFA women’s rankings, going from 66th to 67th. While this is a slight setback, the team remain focused on climbing back up the rankings.
Despite the drop, there are positive aspects to consider. The team have maintained a consistent points total of 1389.02, indicating a competitive performance level. This stability provides a strong foundation for future improvement.
The FIFA women’s rankings are determined by a points system that factors in results, the importance of matches and the strength of opponents. Every match presents an opportunity to accumulate points and rise in the rankings.
The Indian team will be looking to capitalize on upcoming matches to showcase their talent and strategic approach. Climbing the FIFA rankings is a gradual process and the team’s dedication and perseverance will be crucial in achieving their goals.
