Haryana is a state that has produced quite a few big sports personalities over the years. Games such as boxing, kabaddi, and wrestling are quite popular in the North Indian state as athletes from Haryana have done well in National and International tournaments.
Football initially took the backseat in terms of popularity in the state. However, recently there are quite a few big names coming out of Haryana. Here are the top five footballers from Haryana…
Manandeep Singh
One of the first big names out of Haryana, Manandeep Singh has represented the Indian national team on two occasions, helping them to win the 2012 Nehru Cup. The striker was also given the 2012 FPAI Young Player of the Year award.
In terms of club football, Manandeep Singh has represented Pailan Arrows, Air India, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Kerala Blasters, and Minerva Punjab amongst other clubs. The forward’s best came in the 2011-12 season when he scored 9 goals in 18 appearances for Air India.
Sumeet Passi

Currently plying his trade with Inter Kashi, Sumeet Passi is a well-known name in Indian football. The forward has represented Indian Arrows, Sporting Goa, NorthEast United, Jamshedpur FC, Punjab FC, and East Bengal so far.
Under Stephen Constantine, Sumeet Passi was also selected for the Indian national football team. With the Blue Tigers, the 30-year-old scored 3 goals in 8 appearances between 2016 and 2019.
Aakash Sangwan
The FC Goa player is a Haryana-based footballer who is slowly but surely moving up the ranks in Indian football. Aakash Sangwan has represented Minerva Punjab, Churchill Brothers, and Punjab FC in the I-League before moving to the ISL with Chennaiyin FC in 2022.
After two good seasons with the Marina Machans, Aakash Sangwan joined FC Goa under Manolo Marquez, who also gave him his India debut in 2024. In terms of trophies, the 29-year-old has won the I-League title with Minerva Punjab in 2018 and will be keen to add to this in the coming years.
Gurmeet Singh Chahal
The 25-year-old is an up-and-coming goalkeeper who is currently plying his trade in the Indian Super League. Gurmeet Singh made his debut with NorthEast United in 2018 before moving to Hyderabad FC for three seasons, where he also won the ISL Cup in 2022.
The goalkeeper returned to NorthEast United ahead of the 2024-25 season and is currently their first-choice shot-stopper. Gurmeet Singh helped the Highlanders win the 2024 Durand Cup and was also awarded the Golden Glove in the tournament.
Nishchal Chandan
Nischal Chandan currently plays for Churchill Brothers in the I-League. The centre-back, who is a graduate of the Minerva Punjab Academy, previously represented Delhi FC, Sudeva Delhi, and Jamshedpur FC’s B team among others.
In terms of honours, Nischal Chandan has won the U-18 I-League North Zone Championship with Minerva Punjab. The 25-year-old defender will certainly be hoping to add to his accolades in the coming years.
